Ion storm during escort mission

Jun 02, 2009 kihjin link
Several times now when my convoy encounters an ion storm, the ship will place MY "exit point" in the exact opposite direction of the other ships. This results in one of two scenarios:

1) I follow the path to my exit point and leave the convoy. The convoy may or may not make it out

2) I stick with the convoy until they jump, then head back in the opposite direction, trying to get back to the convoy before it hits another storm, or worse. Regardless, I'll only get partially compensated because in order to get out of the storm, the rest of the convoy would be on their way while I'm still in the storm going back the opposite direction to get out.

Its an old bug the Devs have never quite gotten fixed....

I find that if you can get to the convoy and distract the bots for the first minute or two then they can get lined up and moving. After that you can race to the exit and the convoy usually is ok afterwards.

This is still occurring. PaKettle's answer to it works for me as well, but it is somewhat frustrating none the less.

true they should really check to see if a ship is in a group before figuring an exit and then (if there is a group) figure a group exit and assign it to everyone....

Yep this is still happening with voys.

With a storm HS, when the storm is still in place, the exit point for hive, npcs and players always seems coincident.

Hope that helps.

Report for you mom:
I encountered this bug between 1:56-1:59 (10 minutes ago)
Convoy left Azek I-12 for Verasi O-7
Storm was at Azek J-3 and the convoy jump point was 11222m from mine.

I jumped into the storm at J3 sometime after the convoy (I was distracted taking notes)

We've actually spend a couple of man-weeks trying to debug this in the last month or two, but it's been very sporadic and difficult to track down. Please continue posting reports.

i wasn't aware it was sporadic, however I do have a suggestion. Upon entering the storm, nobody gets an exit point until the whole voy arrives, then they all get assigned the group leader's exit point. On second thought I'm not sure that's even possible.

An alternate idea is to have a number static exit points in the storm and once the whole voy is there, they all proceed to the exit nearest the group leader. This would mean you'd have to have multiple exits visible at the same time, I dunno, say that in a storm their are only certain spots you can jump from or something.

Right.. that's pretty much what we do. The issue is that it isn't working. Some sort of highly sporadic race condition or sector startup issue, most likely.

how bad would it be for ion storm sectors to not shut down?

Another report:
Itan J-11 to Divinia J-11, Storm with different exits occurred at Divinia D-12 (first of 4 storms encountered in that sector). Time was 10:47pm Wisconsin time 10-19-2009 (0352 GMT).

I had gotten ahead of the convoy and destroyed 2 guardians before the convoy arrived. I regrouped with the convoy, took out a 3rd guardian, and when the convoy left I was 8k from my jump point.
