Dual/Triple Monitor Support

Nov 09, 2009 slhawkins link
I've got Dual monitors right now, and I assume this would work the same with Three monitors. Simply put, with dual monitors the game doesn't 'capture' the mouse. After a while of scrolling to the right my ability to aim my ship right is lost. While in a station or what not I'm able to move the mouse to the second monitor. While I really do enjoy leaving something up on the second monitor and then being able to switch it quick, it really sucks to be fighting and lose my ability to point the ship to the right.

What OS are you using, for starters? I haven't personally observed this, on my dual monitor XP setup at the office.

I apologize, didn't even think about that. I'm using Windows 7, happens on both 32/64bit versions. The graphics card is a Radeon HD 4650 on the 32bit, and 2x Radeon HD 5870 on the 64bit.

I am perfectly fine playing VO on 2 LCD panels setup under linux.

[edit] Well, one minute difference between posting makes my post off topic.

No worries, it's just one more reason to make the final switch to linux ;)

Haha, no doubt! :)

Anyway, I have forgotten to address one glitch that is really annoying.

Example scenario: I fly to a WH and jump, pressing e.g. "t" key to release mouse. I want to utilize the jump time using another application on the second LCD. OK, after pressing "t", I move the mouse pointer to the other LCD giving focus to another application. Lets pretend it is an IM client I am typing a message within. THEN, VO finishes the jump and STEALS focus so my next typing is going to VO client what leads to frustration, repeating the focus work, repeated typing of the same and nasty effects in VO. I once posted half of one of my passwords on 100. It taught me to use "g" key instead. Does anyone want the password to my bank account? /group invite Infinitis then wait for your lucky moment ... :)

Hmm. interesting. I bet that doesn't happen in Windows, since non-focused apps cannot steal the mouse. That's something that should be added to VO under linux. It should check to see if it is the active app before stealing the mouse. I wonder how that works.

Windows doesn't work that way... just tested it out. But the mouse is still moving off to the second LCD while playing. It's easy to deal with while at a station, but it sucks when I'm trying to fight ;)

Which Linux distro are you using? I realize there's probably some code for the app you can use to prevent stealing the focus, but I do believe I've heard of some Linux distro's preventing it themselves.

I run the client under KDE in a windowed mode because the full screen mode turns the other LCD off. I use a function of the window manager to run the window in full screen mode and above others then. I was also playing with some focus stealing prevention settings with no luck.

Second problematic scenario is when I am starting an application (e.g. browser) on the other screen. When my focus get lost in the time of starting, mouse gets to the LCD with VO running on ... the application starts on that screen under VO, of course. I have to move VO to another virtual screen then, move the browser, switch to VO virtual screen, move it back, switch back.
