Escort ships stick a dash too close to capital ship

I like how close the ships in an escort are sticking to the cappy in the escort... however, sometimes they get a little too close. The ships in my escort (I'm currently taking it) keep getting bumped into by the cappy and losing health. One taur in my group was brought down to 60% just because the cappy slapped it broadside.

I have also observed this on a number of escorts. It seems to happen a fair bit where the voy is large, and includes a connie. All the ships head for the jump point, but the average connie speed is a bit faster than the moths and taurs. The connie just flies over them, they lose armour as they scrape along the connie hull.

A second point. I thought that you could only dock with a capship in your own voy. I started an escort from Helios B 14 to Odia H 6, launched and docked with a trident. Halfway across Ukari I realised I was in a trident belonging to a different voy. So I just potted a bit of hive and watched. The trident I was in went to Sedina L2, I jumped out and rejoined my original voy in sed O 6 which completed successfully.

I suspect that is not really a problem, since it is not going to happen often.

Navigations Officer: "Sir, these behemoths keep flying in front of our bow when headed for the jump point. If we keep breaking for them we won't make the delivery on time for our bonus."

Captain: "Damnit, we don't have time for this. Run them over."

The real question in all of this is why the FUCK are cap ships faster than moths and taurs.

It's not necessarily that they are moving faster (though this does happen sometimes), it's that when the cappy turns after the jump point, it broad-side smacks the littler ships.

Sometimes that behavior saves the littler ships: several times now I've been lining up my shot on a moth as it warps, only to be run over by the connie.

Navigations Officer: "Sir, Trakus Shar is lining up to take out these Behemoths when they jump out of the sector! Should I open fire?"

Captain: "That's okay."

Navigations Officer: "...That's okay?"

Captain: "Yeah, it's okay. Don't worry about it!"

Weapons Officer: "He's firing, captain."

Captain: "Alert the dock workers in Sedina to prepare to receive all of the cargo."

Communications Officer: "And how do you expect them to do that when Shar is firing on them?"

Captain: "Alert the dock workers."

Navigations Officer: "Sir, he's firing, that moth is about to go down."

Captain: "That's okay."

Navigations Officer: "Well, should we, you know, fire back?"

Captain: "No."

*The universe flickers for a moment. Suddenly Trakus Shar's ship appears halfway inside the connie's hull at -16.5% hull*

Everyone else on bridge: "What the...?"

*Captain takes a bite out of an apple*

Incarnate: "How the hell did that connie circumvent your designed behavior for the capship AI?"

Momerath: "I do not know."

could make a new sport out of this, who can get bashed the furthest by a cappy spinning to warp.

Well, Moth cricket could be fun LNH.

Taking a few yoys today I see that tridents are jumping cleanly but there is still a bit of a collision problem at the jump point with connies. As atice says it seems to be when the connie swings round after the jump.
I think I also saw some pre jump damage, as if the connie jumps when its centre reaches the wh, it turns 90 deg and hits another voy member.

I saw a XX connie "escorting" a XX moth heavy the other day in B-8. The connie was steaming full ahead, while the moth was tumbling and spinning neatly inside the divot on the connie's prow. It was in remarkably good shape (93% or so), but seemed to have lost its turrets.

As atice says it seems to be when the connie swings round after the jump.

This is related to the bug where, in general, ships will re-orient instantly while warping.

Fix that, and a large portion of the problems relating to connies batting moths around will disappear.
