No Sound

Hi, just resubbed and logged in and i havent got any sound.

I've tried changing the audio drivers, the vista sound driver gives me the constant crackling sound still. Ray might remember that bug since i think it was me that reported that sound bug first.

I've tried removing the plugin folder wgaf and config, and that had no effect at all.

Computer stats:
Unit: Acer Aspire M3630
OS: Vista
Sound Card: trust sc-5200

http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=12949

drivers and such are all up to date and sound works everywhere else.

thanks

Hmm. My sound is all peachy keen on my Windows 7 netbook, and our Vista test machine here at the office. Is the SC-5200 an onboard chip? Or an actual card?

its a pci card ye.

I installed vo on my laptop quickly to see if it works, works fine there :/

I havent got through the trial (and I am at this stage unlikely to subscribe purely on the basis that I have no sound).

I have abit an9 Fatal1ty(AMD2 Dual Core 2) Motherboard, with realtek card (it is a card but comes with the m/board). Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 with 4 gb ram.

I have no problem with sound at any other time with any other game. I have the latest motherboard specific drivers (and I have also tried the realtek latest generic drivers).

I tried the game on my Windows 7 pro netbook and it ran fine with sound.

I cant see how I can justify playing on beyond the trial without sound.

Not sure if this applies to you. There should be an option to select a different sound driver under options->audio, maybe it will work if you select the other one.

Breazle: That looks like one of those c-media based cards. Do you use the driver from trust or from c-media? There might be newer ones available at http://www.cmedia.com.tw .

There have been suggestions of making sure that you have your audio device set to stereo in the Windows audio properties. Also, if you can, set it to 44100 Hz sampling rate.

There are other threads in the Windows forum on this site that have other suggestions, like editing vendetta's config.ini file to change driver settings.

I tried the Bioshock demo in Windows 7 recently and through the whole demo there was no sound. So, there are other games that have similar problems.

I've got the same problem. Since I loaded the trial I haven't had any sound. All other games work fine.

I have a Dell Studio XPS M1340 running Windows 7.
I can't find a specific sound card in the device manager all i have is:
IDT High Definition Audio Codec
Nvidia High Definition Audio

I have to run VO in compatibility mode for XP or else it just crashes on startup. If I go to options straight away after opening VO, I can choose the Vista codec, but after clicking ok, it goes back to the WAV codec and the Vista codec disappears from the menu.

Any ideas?

The game shouldn't need to be run in compatibility mode to begin with. When it crashes, is there a bug reporter that comes up and asks you to submit? If so, please do, we can debug the crash report.

FWIW, I just tested the latest version of the game on my own Windows 7 machine, and it starts fine here. But, there may be issues specific to your hardware, and/or specific driver versions (do you have the latest video driver, for instance?).

The updater requests admin privileges on startup, which it needs (for now), and should update properly, and then allow you to click "Play" and run the actual game. How is that all working?

Otherwise, if you are stuck in XP compatibility mode, the WAV driver should work? We think? The Vista driver may not work in XP compatibility mode, as it may not be exposed to the game within that mode.

I took off compatibility mode and it launched fine (I think it was crashing when I first ran it when it was trying to change to my native resolution).

But I still had no sound, so I changed the driver to Vista's driver and restarted the game. Now it won't launch, the crash report is:

Where did you get that crash report from? There should be an errors.log file in the /Program Files/Vendetta Online/ folder. If you can post that right after a crash, it may have more info.

That's the windows crash report, after a crash the Vendetta errors.log file only has:

Edit:
There was also a file in the root folder called 'waverror' which contained:
"[06/13/10 08:44:05] Failed .\audioclient.cpp: line 287

Ah, thanks ceke.
That waverror.log info is exactly what I needed. That error code means that the audio format isn't supported. We're trying to use a floating-point format, which should be supported, and apparently it's not supported.
Jun 13, 2010 raybondo link
Here's a page by Microsoft regarding the default audio device format:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd370811%28v=VS.85%29.aspx

If you can try following the steps about three quarters down the page, beginning with starting mmsys.cpl, and set the default audio format to "2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)"
and see what happens, please.
Jun 13, 2010 ceke link
That did it, I can hear everything perfectly now.
Thanks a lot! :D

Cool, thanks. That'll help me focus on what the game can do to mitigate this problem. Do you happen to remember what the setting was before you changed it?
Aug 01, 2010 Sonambulist link
Hello. Hopefully my response here is acceptable as the previous reply is only 6 weeks old.

I'm trying the VO trial and also encountered the sound issue. I resolved it by following raybondo's suggestion to alter speaker settings to 16bit, 44100 Hz and restarting the game. FWIW, my previous setting was 16 bit, 48000 Hz. If a Dxdiag report of my hardware is at all relevant, PM me and I will happily provide it.

Thank you.

Hi. Which OS are you using? Windows 7 or Vista?
Aug 01, 2010 Sonambulist link
Vista Ultimate 32bit SP 2.

Please try again and see if the sudio problems are fixed. I made some slight changes to the audio system on Vista/Win7. If the audio still does not work or sounds very wrong (too fast/slow, consistantly periodic gaps, etc...) please post your waverrors.log file as it has additional info about your computer's audio capabilities and what VO is trying to do with it. Thanks.

I just reinstalled and had issue of no sound too. By default hardware options is set to Windows Vista but i have a windows 7 64 bit OS. NO sound, so i switch to (Wav) and it causes very very bad popping and echo. So i read this thread and tried setting my audio to stereo instead of 5.1 and it worked. I can now use Vista driver and sounds perfectly.... My quality was already set on the 16bit cd quality.

My issue with this however is that i don't want to have to set my sound drivers to stereo. I've never had to do this in the 200+ games i have on steam. This is first one. So I'm going to have to remember to set it to stereo when playing Vendetta and setting back to 5.1 for everything else. Is there a way to do this automatically? If not i hope for a fix to this soon. Things like this just deters players from logging in because now we have to do special steps just to play the game.
