Math problems in Jallik?

Oct 02, 2011 Mick the Mighty link
There seems to be a math problems in Jallik. I sold a large number of Plasma Eliminators, and the credits credited to my account was maybe 1/8 what it should of been. I should of received about 1686 per item, yet it ended up being 94 @ 208 (for you younger folk, @ is the symbol for "each at", for example, 1 at $1.50 or 5 each at $1.25). I didn't think to get a screen shot before the sale, yet I got one showing the results in the message/chat area if that helps any.

I think the figures I was seeing in the info box below the the Commerce/Welcome cargo was close to the following (I have been known to make mistakes before):

Sell price: 2,891 c
Purchase price: 1,895
Unit profit: -1698 c loss
Total profit: -158,485 loss

Even if it got the purchase and sell price backwards, we are still looking at 94 x 1,895 c = 178,130 c, which is not even close to the 19,645 c that I received for the sale. If we consider the 1,700 c loss per unit then we are still looking at 94 x 1,191 c = 111,954 c. Seems as if something just isn't adding up.

Just wondering if I have to check the math of each transaction?

A lot of weapons and other ship addons will tank the market after only selling 5-10 units. This happens all over, not just in Jallik.

I c what u did there.

Jallik Watch might be willing to purchase 1 plasma eliminator @ 1686c, but for a bulk sale of 94 they expect a discount. As draugath said, this is a fundamental game mechanic and happens all over, not just in Jallik. To make matters more complicated, different goods have different elasticity of demand and rebound rates.

Phaserlight, you've lost some of my respect. 8P

I reproduced what you did and got the following:

Unit Sell Price (qty 1): 2,886 cr
Unit Sell Price (qty 94): 211.7 cr
Unit Purchase Price: 1,895 cr
Unit Profit (qty 94): -1,683.3 cr
Total Profit (qty 94): -158,233 cr

So the numbers are correct, and it is just like Phaserlight and Draugath said. Here is a graph showing the dropoff:

You should get my MaxProfit plug-in: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/16/22074
It found the greatest total profit occurs at selling qty 5 for a total profit of 2,549 cr.

If it is going to tank like that it should pretty much state as much. If you shop at Radio Shack they let you know that you will get a discount if you purchase 10+ of a high profit (low dollar) item, or 25+ of a low profit (big ticket) item. Even my utility companies (both city and power) publish schedules showing the rates, based on usage.

It still stinks, stating one price, yet paying another. And offering no expatiation - in-game. I still consider this a bug, because it was not the price I agreed to, and it looked as if there was a bug in-game.

Oh well, once burned twice shy.

The total profit (loss, rather) of -158,000 cr is clearly shown on the welcome screen and on the commodities sell tab when you go to sell the goods:

The only place where it is perhaps not so obvious is on the Load/Unload screen if you use the Unload & Sell All button:
