"The script system is completely unregulated and abused."

Oh noes! Somebody can make a plugin that recolors text by channel number! They're totally cheating and abusing the game!

Actually, the plugin system is pretty heavily regulated. Player-provided code runs inside of a locked down sandbox that only has access to a small subset of the game client's functions.

---On another note, the game is perfectly playable for me on my Linux PC. Maybe there's something wrong with your phone? ---
Edit: Scratch that; I was just fighting a Prosus Assaults with lots of shots hitting the bots and very few beeps. My ping's been nice and solid ~60ms and the network quality report didn't pop up once.

Sorry, we're swamped with another deadline right now, but this will be the top priority as soon as we can. Probably early next week.

Also, there appears to be another aspect to this bug.

Damage registers at different times on different clients. One person may see a player at 94% but another at 100% still at the same exact time. Eventually that damage will get synced on the 100%'ers client but it seems not until that player is hit again.

I have screenshots and video to prove this.

This bug is annoying, but combat is very much playable still. If you are better than your opponent, you will consistently land more hits, and you will win the fight. The bug works both ways, and it will average out.

Er, that's not related at all, that's just quantized health. And it's not a bug, it's how it's intended to work.

It also seems to have abated somewhat, to the point where I can't tell the difference between the hit registry issue, and my usual occasional "splashes" caused by my Aussie ping. Only when I get splashes at point blank range can I be sure its a hit registry issue and not ping related.

I disagree Savet. It does sadly not even out. I've had a couple fights where I landed 5 or 6 flare hits while my opponent landed 2 or 3. All his flares counted while only half of mine did. I'm quite sure it is also location related.

yes ive noticed it gets worse when there are many objects around. specifically in wormhole sectors ive noticed many hits dont get registered. and as the number of hits that dont get registerer may balance out, sometimes one person has a weapon that does far more damage. so the actual damage done does not balance out at all. its very relieving to see a dev say theyre gona be on it though. thanks VO devs..you guys are the best!!!

You just need to fire your shots with more passion and desire.

I've been having this issue for about 7 years or so now. I typically only see about 0.2% of my hits register. Please fix.

Ironically, I have no problems killing people in womhole sectors. Not to belittle the problem, but if one high-damage hit is required for your win, you probably weren't guaranteed a win anyway. This bug is actually kind of nice because it rewards consistent hits of low-damage weapons, and effectively nerfs flare-spam that has become too common.

Well, it's not a equal opportunity bug. Sometimes a lot of hits register, sometimes none and it is not equal amongst players, it's not random in the sense of total shots fired registering. It's random in who's shots fired register. So while you may shoot more and land them, most of your shots may or may not count vs a small percentage of the other guy's landing all counting.

I'm sick of this shit. I'll be mining if that until this is fixed. The devs have my money for a year anyway, so not like they care what I think. This isn't an argument about why you shouldn't have people with latencies of 600ms playing with people with 80ms or script kiddies purposely making their latencies high when they come up for pvp. It's drop whatever was planned because everyone is telling you this last update is a massive regression.

This last update has screwed the pooch. The game for the first time since I've played it randomly segfaults now when docking. Hits noticeably and randomly register along with significant issues with updating clients with the same server data at the same time. We are seeing "lag" issues between players who have low pings and verified aren't "hacking". The server is just not updating clients with correct data.

I really dont care what this more important thing is that is reaching a deadline. Since this last update the game is now semi-twitch. You get to fly your ship but the game will randomly make none of that shit matter. This bug is not uniform, it isn't "leveling the playing field". The only people happy with the current behavior are griefers who prey on new players and get mowed down by anyone who managed to stick with the game more than a few days.

We found the problem. It was a result of fixing the bug with destroying mines as they timed out, that patched in recently. Ironically, I think it was effectively penalizing people with better network connections, due to a packet ordering issue. Ray has fixed the code, but we need to do a full server restart, which is currently slated for later today (Tues).

FWIW, 99% of the time I would scrap artificial deadlines in the interest of fixing significant bugs like this. The exceptions to this are obviously very rare, and in this case there were legal and (large) financial ramifications to halting the work that occupied us.. and the "delay" was only a couple more days.

In any case, sorry for the issue, thanks for your patience.
