Screen shifting broke calibration

Jun 23, 2015 Tokko Bashalis link
I spend 90% of my game time laying on my back. In order to hold my phone comfortably I need to calibrate to negative degrees. In the past, I've simply hit the calibrate button, rotated my phone 180 degrees, hit calibrate again, and then I'm good. Now when I do that, the screen rotates! This makes it nearly impossible to get -70° for instance.

Either make an option to never rotate the screen should I so choose or allow us to manually enter a value for desired calibration.

This option already exists - only it's in your device options - not in VO's. Go to settings > display > screen rotation and untick 270.

VO, and every other app will conform to this setting, enabling more than VO to be used up-side down.

Part of me says this is an okay fix, but the other part says that leaving this issue to be solved externally will only create more trouble from different people. I'm not against your suggestion, it's genius and I feel dumb for not thinking about it. However, this should be something that can be solved in-house to curb future frustration from people not as genius as you.

Most android games have this problem, so it is not limited to vo. Try play real racing 3, quake ports, emulators or zombie raiders and you will run into this exact same problem, if you try to play them in any position but sat up. I prefer the choice, and we have that now.

Hm, I hadn't considered that. The issue is that the setting is hardcoded in the App's APK manifest file and doesn't look like it is configurable. Some versions of Android do allow you to turn off sensor-based rotation in the OS's Settings somewhere but I don't know the details.

Well, it didn't work. I turned off screen rotation and vo still rotates. Frustrating... Help me Ray!

Phone model: Verizon Note 3 SM-N900V
Android Version: 4.3

Screen rotation is off and vendetta still rotates making calibrations to negative degrees very frustrating. It takes several minutes of trial and error to get the number I want. I have to open up the calibration screen and throw my phone back while trying to blindly press the calibration button before the screen rotates and then I have to hope it's at least close to the number I want.

If you need more info please just tell me so I can get this back. This has affected my ability to play everyday since the update. I'd like this fixed as soon as possible, please.

We're working on a solution to choose what landscape mode you want and whether to use the sensor to make the determination.

then this would seem like a problem with your device and not something the devs should devote valuable time and energy to, considering 99% of the VO users use a PC or Bluetooth enabled device.

Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to say things like this then? Just saying...

Honestly your persistence against me is flattering. Take what I say out of context all you like. The devs pushed out an update because a few people complained that their chargers were on the wrong side and they issued the update without thinking through the total impact it would make.

Did you read the request this guy in the comment thread you're quoting me from was asking? His problem was easily solved through processes already available and supported in the game. He was asking for a NEW solution to a convoluted problem. I'm informing the devs that they broke a system that used to work fine and currently has no supported work around. Additionally, I have asked other mobile users to do the same test (that is, turn off screen rotation and see if vo still rotates) and I haven't met anyone who has confirmed that your solution fixes the problem.

Here's some more: "I prefer the choice, and we have that now." You mean the choice where no matter what you do on the vo side or OS side, vo still rotates and makes negative degree calibration next to impossible. Yeah I love that choice. Seriously though, I'm informing the devs that the choice they were trying to implement is broken. The screen should still rotate, but there needs to be a way to control its action. But no, f*ck me right?

Congrats on your +1 troll level

EDIT - Sorry, the troll stole my concentration. A well deserved thank you to you and Inc, Ray. I really appreciate the communication.

No, it was a simple solution to a simple problem. It is a FACT that when using a controller as the primary input method THE CHAT IS HARDER - by the fact that THE VO SYSTEM OF INPUT says that you are pressing SELECT while using THEIR on screen keyboard WHILE using THEIR virtual mouse is annoying.

He did not report it as a bug, and nor did he ignore my advice. Infact chatting with the vitual mouse would be a lot easier if the VO client did not take every press of A as D-PAD (maybe he didn't explain well, but it IS a bug and annoys me too).

I did not say TURN OFF SCREEN ROTATION, I simply said that turning off rotation on an angle removes this problem. Which it does(on any device, since Gingerbread Go to settings > display > screen rotation and untick 270), I have developed a few Android games (all with the UT4 engine, not with anything like NAOS) and know this to be usually a problem with most Android titles.

Asking the devs to fix THIS that is within your own means to fix, is fine. But asking the devs to fix a simple thing LIKE THE CONTROL SCHEMEA they enforce is a waste of time?

Go give your head a wobble, you elitist prick. Maybe next time you will read a post and not just shoot it down because you are bored.

Sorry, its really hot here.

Sure, maybe I didn't totally understand the problem he was describing. I'll conceded that I can be wrong. I apologize for coming across as snappy, it wasn't my intention.

We released patch 1.8.343 that adds options to manually set the landscape mode. I really hope this fixes the problem you're having.

I love you! Thanks so much!
