1.1.3 bugs

Nov 16, 2004 Cam link
I've been ingame quite a bit today watching the chat and flying around. So here's the list of what I personally have experienced:

Convoys: They're warping before 3k again.

Mining: Xithrite cannot be mined. Targeted a roid with Xithrite and when I tried to mine it, was given a message along the lines of "No ores here"

Non-loading sectors: Still happening as of just before this post, inter system jump resulted in me having to re-log and choose a different route.

Issues I've heard from others in the chat:

Beginner's combat practice: Is missing. Apparently some players cannot access the beginner's mission, and are also too low a level to access advanced.

Overall I'm VERY impressed with the update. The mining seems to be very popular, and I love the new target box and ship/cargo info. The HUD feels much more polished, and modern.

Thanks Devs :D

I could mine xi-rite just fine.. Get level 3 (2 at corvus) and get the xi-rite laser.

only gets 8xp / ~900cr per cu, though, so it's not the best ore to mine (unless you can't find the good stuff - helio, etc.)

Non-loading sectors is now fixed.

I'd like to see a misbehaving convoy. I'll check it out.

Who is missing beginner's combat practice?

According to some statments in-game, anyone low enough level not to get the advanced mission can't see the beginner's mission.

I can see it with my present set of characters, and the one I just made...

There are a number of roids which have no heat and come up with a list of ores when you scan them... but when you mine them it says "No ores here".
Nov 16, 2004 a1k0n link
Ok, if you have a trade level it doesn't show the beginner combat mission. Ahha. Fixing..

Eldrad: hmm, okay. If someone can point one out to me in-game after I look at the combat thing I'll check it out

Beginner combat mission thing fixed, but the sectors need to idle out to get the new code. For now just go to a less-popular station that you have neutral or better standing with and you can pick it up.

What about the server crashing when a roid heats up beyond 25000K ? Is that taken care of ?

Mined with 1 laser and mined with 4 lasers, same rate of temperature increase?

Also, regarding the temperature, the hotter an asteroid is, the more heat it dissipates (infrared radiation) into space, so technically with the laser on, the temperature should increase fast when at 10K, but slower and slower as it gets higher, and should level off somewhere. The reverse should happen when the laser is off... if the roid is hot, it should cool off rapidly, and if it's in the tens of K, it should cool off slowly.

Remembering that 273K is the melting point of water (at 1 atm, mind you), and that by then Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and other gases have already vaporized, it would be cool to see gas leak effects around asteroids that are above a certain temperature (200K?), and red-glow if they reach metal or rock melting points (thousand-K range).

Mining lasers don't seem to draw off power.

Mining Beam comes in the Small and Large types, but Mining Beam MK II is large, and Advanced Mining Beam is also large. Perhaps name the Small variety Mining Laser, and the Large variety Mining Beam, and go from there with the MK 2, 3, etc versions.

Easiest way to increase mining is to get as many lasers going as possible, near a station so you're not bugged by bots, and jet the cargo. Some people put a weight on the j key and go afk, I heard. I think there should be an incentive to haul the stuff to station; perhaps in the form of mining missions that give mining and trade bonuses.

Since we can't manufacture anything using the minerals we mine, perhaps the various stations could offer rewards other than cash: "Our production facilitites here are specialized in making Vulture MK III's, mine and bring us 20 of xxx ore that we need for production, and we'll give you one for free."

Chao, that had nothing to do with the server crash. The server crash was me trying to update some code on the fly (minor bugfixes) which worked fine on our test server but it turned out I had forgotten to recompile the production server after fixing the bug, so I was really surprised when it crashed.

ajax34i, there are some grouping benefits to mining, and having multiple guns on one ship counts as being grouped with yourself. It does have a higher rate of increase than one gun would but it's definitely less than 2x.

Yes, heat would technically radiate at a rate of (T-Ta)*h where Ta is the ambient temperature and h is the heat loss constant, and I actually worked out the differential equations that way, but then I realized that rocks would cool off in roughly the same amount of time it took to heat them, and we wanted it to cool more slowly, and linearly, for gameplay reasons.

Also, scanning a Navpoint results in crash. I'm willing to venture that attempting to mine one would result in a very similar occurance. Not surprising, however.

before the 1.13, I had 181465 as points on heavy weapon, but i have not money
to buy the licence9; since the update 1.13 my level is always 8 for heavy weapon ;
why I do not have the 9, whereas it is needed 149655 points for
the licence9 ?
Banzaiiii

Nota Bene :Yes i see, i make a border patrol and my licence level up to 9
Thanks crippled pigeon

you'll level up as soon as you get heavy weapons experience. So go kill something - anything - with heavy missiles, heavy rocks, plasma devastator, what have you, and you'll level up.

Dude..

You can't admit something like,

"The server crash was me trying to update some code on the fly (minor bugfixes) which worked fine on our test server but it turned out I had forgotten to recompile the production server after fixing the bug, so I was really surprised when it crashed."

You have to make up some BS or some people might get the notion that you are fallable. Smoke and mirrors man, smoke and mirrors.

I know, A1k0n's not doing his part to represent the uncaring face of the corporate monolith we all know Guild Software really is! Shape up!

Yeah...what's happened to you, Andy? did you get religion? Did the ghosts of "Programing-past" and "Programing-yet-to-come" pay you a visit?

You know that everything good is you and everything bad is Ray...you're upsetting the natural order of things!
