Radar Issues

Dec 15, 2004 gamejunky link
Well it seems that if the sector im in has alot of one thing, it goes off the radar. Example, I was doing CTC yesterday and a buddy killed the transport but had to leave because of strike force (lol), so i was going to come in and get the cargo. Well someone was in thats sector mining, i could see tons of cargo clusters everywhere but my radar was going FUBAR on me. The radar showed no cargo .. it flashed now and then showing a single group .. but didn't last long. So the end result was, me sitting around the sector looking for CTC cargo.. I neve found it. I dont knopw if this would be a videocard problem, or if anyone else is having this problem. It also happens in sectors with over 25 bots. Although, if there is a sector with a whole lot of Human players and some bots (CTC scenario) it wont happen.

Could be a video driver problem.. Point sprites have completely failed to work on some ATI cards in the past, and that's what radar blips are. Which card do you have?

You can try setting ps_hack=1 in config.ini in the directx8 section - that's exactly what that setting is for.

Im using an Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 420 PCI w/ 64 MB Ram, I'll try the ps_hack and litter somewhere to test it. Thanks (I'll post back if it fails)

YAY! This fixed it! My radar shows ALL of the astroids too now which is alot different than what im used to seeing on the radar. I tested by dumping 50 cargo all over the place 1 by one and they all show up. Thanks a1k0n. Also, it seems like the Player/NPC blips are bigger and bolder, thanks :)

Hey A1k0n, if you read this.. Do you know of any way to get the Glow effect to work on my video card? i've tried it in DirectX and Open GL and both dont work. I've seen the screenshots of it and it looks awesome.

It only works on GeForce4-class cards. Yours is a GeForce2-class, unless I'm mistaken.

"Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 420 PCI w/ 64 MB Ram" .. i dont know what class it falls in line with. Maybe it is Geforce2-class. Oh well :(

Yeah, a GeForce 4MX is unfortunately not much different from a GeForce 2 MX. A GeForce 4 Ti4x00, on the other hand, is a completely different chip. NVidia's marketing department is the most mystifying entity in the world.

The new ones are funny. They're just GeForce MX's, no series number. But the copyright is 2004, and I've seen some with 64-128MB of RAM, so they're fairly recent...
