writing on roids

Jan 06, 2005 madisonsuicide link
maybe this was a glitch, maybe i discovered the secret to the universe...anyway someone recommended i post it in the this forum since it might be a bug.
in helios b7, while going approaching an astroid to mine it, it got real dark(the roid) and then lit up with very clean looking glowing letters(like the trade standard writing) all the roids were lit with them, almost glowing from under the surface very brightly. the ice crystals ones were fine, the station looked fine, and the background/space all looked fine. it lasted a minute and then everything was back to normal. went back to the station, ship flew fine, and the mouse was jumping some once i docked so i logged out and back in, don't know if that was related or not.

It was a sign from the elders. They're trying to tell you something.
It's probably "KILL EVERYONE", because that's what they told me...

Or maybe the roid textures got confused with billboard textures.

lol

If they were glowing red and you heard a sinister, rumbling voice speaking in a foreign language, you're in trouble.

Otherwise, yeah, texture malfunction.

This is a bug with the textures that seems to affect MacOS 10.2.8 (which I also use on a PowerBook 15" with 64MB VRAM). I experience it on an infrequent basis.

To fix it without restarting Vendetta, you can go to the options and change the video resolution to force a texture reload. Beware: The process takes about 10 seconds, so make sure you are docked or in a safe part of space before you do it.

If you don't reload the textures, the corruption will eventually spread to the stations, background, etc., and finally the client will crash. Occasionally I get corruption that will crash the entire MacOS with a kernel panic.

I'm told that 10.3 is much better for graphics, but I'm waiting for 10.4 before I shell out over $100 for an OS upgrade.

If you have a choice between getting 10.3 and waiting for 10.4... take 10.4. It's worth waiting.
I've had this problem happen with bumpmaps and planets on 10.3.6, and old builds of 10.4, but 10.3.7 appears to have squashed it completely (and the overall instability of recent 10.4 builds has deterred me from getting to Finder in the first place...let alone VO)
