Odd bot appearances

Jan 28, 2005 IRS link
Eariler today, I was having fun along with a bunch of other players with the group combat mission. We had found a sector (Azek G-11) that had four Artemis collectors and four Tycorp Assualts, making one for each of us to deal with. So far, so good. We jumped in and shot the place up merrily, when I noticed that there seemed to be a few too many red dots around.

Upon checking the bot list for the sector, I noticed that it had grown considerably. There were far more bots present than there had been originally. Upon some examination, I noticed that a new group of bots appeared every time one of our group entered the sector, though if we remained in the sector we could reduce the bot numbers to the 'proper' level.

This was a problem for us, since one of the reasons we had selected this sector was that we could actually outnumber the bots and thus set up some crossfire to deal with them in a faster manner. Since some members were a bit green to bot combat, they had to keep jumping in and out to repair and this kept spawning additional bot groups. It kind of defeats the purpose of outnumbering the bots when the bots keep making more of themselves.

to quote a1k0n (one of my favorites due to the thread's nature this quote came from)

"We are *Orun Collector VK-3924F. You will be assimilated."

IRS, no matter how much TyCorp Assaults are around, only two of them come after you. So 4 against 8 and 4 against 32 are technically the same odds. Your next targets just come quicker on you.

Ah, so this is how it's supposed to work? Dang, there really isn't a point to forming a group under these rules if you can't even get the most basic advantage- greater numbers. Oh well... Hmm... Think they won't do that if I start decorating my ship with the slagged CPU cores of the bots I've destroyed?

yea, thats how its designed to work. the idea being that as more players are in a sector, the game spawns additional bots so that no individual player is ever hunting for a bot to kill.

on a similar note we've had several discussions in the suggestions board about making sectors "clearable" for a certain amount of time. which would give an advantage to getting together a group.

A bit on the same lines..I warped into a Kannik and Artermis(12 Kanniks and one Artemis) sector for a bit of botting to increase my UIT standing. I attacked all the Kanniks, inciting them to all follow my at once, where I had them cluster together. I shot one in the cluster, which blew the rest up with splash damage. After a bit of celebrating over a measy nine point gain, twenty-four new kanniks warped into the sector. I think the queens hate me :/

I think the bots spawning when players warp into the sector is a feature. We used to have really annoying issues with too many players, and too few bots to keep them happy.
