key-locking after pressing shift

Feb 06, 2005 softy2 link
I am not sure if this is a "bug" or a "feature", but I can't find anyplace that says it is a feature so I am posting this.

It seems that pressing SHIFT with any other key, say "Turbo", and then releasing SHIFT *before* the other key will lock the other key.

For example : If I press SHIFT-turbo, and then release the SHIFT key first before releasing the turbo key, my ship will keep on turboing until I unlock it by pressing turbo again.

While I can see this can be useful in some ways, I find it annoying. This is because I have bound capital A and D to "roll" (and lower case a and d to strafe). So when I want to roll, I press SHIFT-a. But I constantly have to release "a" first before releasing SHIFT, else my ship goes into a Roll-lock.

If this is a "feature", can we have a toggle that turn it off?

Thanks

heh, it's actually more along the lines of a bug. The game treats upper and lowercase letters as different keypresses, so what happens is that if you press a key, then press shift and release the key it treats it as releasing a different key.
ex. You are pressing 'f' and releasing 'F'. In your case you are doing it in reverse.

Most people who have that problem solve it by double binding the strafe /roll keys so that each one is both the upper and lowercase of the same letter. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about it with the way you have yours setup tho.

bug indeed, but easily used as feature, i.e. the turbo lock. You can also have roll lock and /roll on to get a double roll (maybe with mouse look only?). You can also set it up to have 1 low energy use weapon on constant fire and sorta help guide your more damaging shots (or give it away?).

It's actually not a double roll (at least, not rolling at double the roll speed). Target yourself so you have the box visible around your ship, and try it. It's just the camera rolls faster than your ship does.

Spellcast :

Thanks a lot for the info. That's very useful to know, if rather annoying to know that I need to go back to rethink my setup.
