Sound issues
I'm not sure what the problem is or even if there is a problem.
When I use turbo I get a 'THUMPING' sound (same when I play the music.) This Thumping is every annoying and loud. It could very well be a problem on my end and not the game, considering that I use a rather old sound card, (Sound Blaster PCI512) I've downloaded the updates to the drivers and dirx and every update I could think of hoping that something would fix this, but the sound makes the game very hard to enjoy, and I can't play a game without sound. I just cant. Without music sure, but no sound at all is not a possibility.
I am not able to change the sound driver in the game, it has the option but only one sound driver is giving to choose from.
Any help would be great guys!

:O How high did you boost your bass?
Please move this to either Win of Linux section.
I dont experience this under any Macs I have (and I do have plenty), including the one wich had an iSub sub-woofer.

Seeing as we don't yet know WHAT the issue is, it can stay right where it is. I play on PCs and don't have this issue either, so it's neither here nor there.
Bong, is the thump rhythmic, random, or only occurring during certain events?

When I play the music and when I use turbo is when it happens.
But I'll go on soon and make sure that's the only time it happens. I did try turning down my bass btw, and it didn't do much.
My friends don't have this issue and they only use windows systems. (btw sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I didn't mean to.) But anyway I have a P3, using windows 98, I have a SB PCI512 sound card. And this has never happened with any other game I own, and I have about 20 recently made games.
This guy I know thinks there is something wrong with the codex or something like that. That's all greek to me, I don't know what he's talking about there.
Thanks

Ok I turned the bass off, and instead of the thumping sound I get a poping sound. hehe. It is only when I play music,or hold the turbo down. Is there anyway I could use another sound driver? I'm only givin one to choose from.
Windows only has one sound driver...
Id go looking for a 3rd party sound driver to try out, and Id also check your cables to make sure they are solid and check your speakers to see if they are perhaps blown. Also, you might wanna check your hardware resources. Win98 isnt known for its ability to install hardware easily.
Ok I also found out that when you first start up the game and click on [I ACCEPT] is when the sound effects start going thump thump thump. But very lightly.
Tramshed I'm getting some speakers to try out tonight, but I doubt it's that because no other game has this problem. And CD music and jpegs and wavs mp3 etc.. don't have this problem. (Vendetta's music does.) I think it's my sound card for some reason.
Something which I should look into buying. (sound is always the last thing I upgrade if it's working.)
ROGUE: I thought windows only had one sound driver but when I saw that there was an option to change the sound driver in the game I figured that I was wrong. The 3rd party idea sounds good, I'll look into it tonight. I also reinstalled vendetta unfortunatly that didn't help.
Thanks guys.

You can change the windows sound driver with this option in the config.ini file:
[wavsound]
use_wavsound=1
set it to 1 or 0. If this setting isn't in your config.ini file, you can add it. The option defaults to 0 if it is not present.

I used to get this sometimes, it was my soundcard sharing the same irq as the video card. Whenever the video card would choke up, it'd frell the soundcard over pretty good too. I think that's probably your case, give it a try.
I have the exact same problem. Sound quircks with music or plain sound effects from the game.
I tried to upgrade the alsa driver on my linux system but the problem continues.
I noticed then that the game uses its own driver, I tried to substitute the game driver with my own but when the game connects to the update server the file gets substituted.

Well, how does one change the irq? Not only that but if I change it would it cause problems with other games?
And I wonder why it only happens to me when playing vendetta.
Thanks AlienB and tosheeba.

Here's a better way to describe it. It's a thumping Echo effect.
When you do just about anything. (I've come to that conclusion)

Do you have that Creative CMSS stuff enabled, per chance?
There's a sound mixahead setting that maybe you can try messing with to see if it fixes the problem.
/set snd_mixahead 0.2
in the console.
It is how far ahead in seconds the sound is mixed.
Try setting it to 0.25 or 0.3 or maybe try 0.1 or 0.15 to see if the echo effect gets worse.
