Loot Tractor Beam

Apr 17, 2005 Bunker link
Hello there. I'm currently running the trial of Vendetta and the game is really great so far. I'd like to suggest something. (I searched and couldn't find anything pertaining, so i'm sorry if it was already posted.) I think it would be a good idea to add a tractor beam on all ships or maybe make it another item you can purchase for it. Each kind of tractor will have a larger area of effect and will be able to pull in the items that drop from a ship after being destroyed. Sort of like in...Freelancer. just a quick suggestion. :)

Good suggestion, but it would probably make CtC too easy for attackers, and too difficult for defenders. Part of the skill involved in CtC for attackers is being able to pick up the cargo without getting destroyed; tractor beams would make this too easy.

However, I would strongly suggest, as in my thread "Capital Ships Die Far Too Easily" ( see http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10070#115307 ), using tractor beams to automate docking with capital ships. Although Lord Q has suggested in the related thread "L-Mining Turrets" ( see http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10060#115259 ) that he "never had any trouble docking while [the capital ship] was moving," and both Phaserlight ( see http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10070#115308 ) and Starfisher ( see http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10070#115311 ) have commented that they prefer manual dockings for an added challenge, personally, I would prefer to concentrate on strategic, rather than purely tactical, challenges.

While it is true that docking with a moving capital ship is a challenge, and while I agree that other players are certainly entitled to their own opinions, IMHO, it is a purely tactical, rather than a strategic, one, and not terribly intellectually interesting. I'd rather concentrate on different weapons strategies for attacking oncoming attackers, and be able rapidly to switch among manning turrets, escorting the capital ships, and fetching Repair Module ammunition.

Automating the docking sequence would enable rapid switching among manning turrets, flying escort fighters, and fetching repair module ammunition, and help the player concentrate on optimizing the defense strategy. Manually docking every single time during every switchover makes this process excruciatingly tedious, and provides no extra strategic challenge.
