Hold down the fort idea.

As for guild stations... In LineAge there are 6-8 castles over the world, and guilds can fight for controlling them. So if we don't want to flood the space with guild stations, we could use the same idea: the guilds could capture stations, and schedule the fights for this station.

Let's say to claim a station which is not controlled by another guild, you should have set amount of active guild members online, who should have high standing with faction-owner, everyone docks at the station and the commander pays a high amount of money.

Once per week the guild HAVE to schedule a fight for controlling the station. And if the station is not claimed, these fights are scheduled randomly.

If the guild claimed or captured the station, it can set the rules of allowing pilots to dock to that station. Maybe, if we tie guilds to faction system (I should think out a suggestion about that if nobody did), capturing the station by particular guild should automatically change the faction-owner of this station

That's in short how can we have LineAge-like system for capturing stations

I like the general idea and I think Guild/Player Owned/Controlled stations will be what takes this game to the next level.

It might be cool to have a few set stations that everyone is constantly fighting for control over. I'm assuming this means that they would be indestructible? I'm not crazy about your idea of HAVING to fight over them each week. Everyone will have enough motivation to fight over them without being somehow forced by the game.

The other way to do it would be to just make stations extraordinarily expensive (~500 mil?), so after the first few are built, it would just make much more sense financially to fight over them, as opposed to spending the money to make new ones. These stations would also be destructible.

Maybe we could have both types of stations.

The idea is not actually to FORCE people to do something, but to arrange fighting the way to be handy for guild-owner. No VO guild can defend the station 24/7 (and in LineAge the size of guilds is limited!), so the guild picks up a time when all members can be online to defend their base.

As for making stations expensive... Well, TGFT should have LOTS of credits now, and they will be able to build a couple of stations paying 500 mln. for each. And as owning a station itself will bting them even more income, they will be able to start building a station every day. However, will they be able to defend them? Well, they could just hire a half of the Universe to defend their bases against another half :)

Anyway... if we don't allow to build new stations, there will be a small amount of stations which really will have a strategic value, and there will be big battles to control them. But if we let to build more stations, there will be a lot of small battles
