New Music Possibilities

I love the music we have in the game, especially the smoother tracks when you first enter the game and when you enter deep Itani space. The only bad thing about it, however, is that it gets a little repetitive after awhile, and though I like most of the tracks a lot, I rarely listen to them nowadays.

With the music on there, it seems that devs want something electronic, but space-like to occupy the Vendetta realm.
Well, there are tons of musicians out there that are constantly making music (sometimes, as I understand it, simply to make music), and putting these new-electronica DJ sets on internet radio stations and websites for free downloading and listening. One such site is www.hybridized.org . I've downloaded tons of sets from them, and it's all extremely high-quality.

I don't see it far fetched that Guild SW could hook up with some of these online DJ's and ask them to either 1) make music for game for some basic advertising, or 2) ask them permission to use existing sets, such as what's found on hybridized.

Some of these sets are huge—half an our to three hours long. I don't know how long it'd take something like that to load, or how our ogg files find their way from the server to our speakers, but even if a 2hr spacey-DJ set was two much, Guild could always ask if they (Guild SW or the DJ) could slice up the sets so they're either smaller and repeat or play in easily-streamed chunks.

This could provide more soundtrack possibilities for the game, maybe through an in-game internet-radio model, with channel 311 listing what the current track is. Different sets apply to different nations and sectors, etc.

I encourage people to look at www.hybridized.org to get a feel for what I'm describing (and if only to find a good source of good, creative techno and electronica). Not all sets would be well-suited to Vendetta, but the latest Andrew Kelly set, i. e. , which is on the front page right now, would be very well suited to empty sectors, ion storm tracks, and Serco space.

Encode to Ogg, drop into Vendetta folder, /playmusic filename.ogg. Rinse, lather, repeat.
