Ragnarok Special

I'dd love to see a special Rag. This was once my favorite ship, and I still love the way it looks. Maybe I will fly it again someday, when there is a special variant. Can't wait :)

the position thing might be tricky. a beacon would work better, since you cant tell your ship to face the beacon and fly at it. plus, you'd probably run into a roid along the way if you could.

I was using incognito as in "completely out of contact" or "without communication"

And i think the purpose of joining a guild is to have that group to help you and vice versa. face the truth, small business just wouldn't be small business if it was big.

I'd say no to the mining Moth as well, it's the best miner already, with an S-port, you'd never use anything else to mine.

secondly, 4L-ports? 12000 damage using 240 energy per shot? ouchies. or, 10000 damage with 120 energy, and two shots with 60 prox? that's a one-shot kill on everything Hog and down.

jackhammer = 2k damage a round
screamer = 3k, but practically nobody uses only screamers since they are hard to hit with due to hteir safetyzone and lower prox (although doesn't really matter for a big target like the capship).
sunflares : 1.5k

standard rag payload :

3 small + 2 large : max : 1.5 * 3 + 3*2 = 10.5k
commonly used payload : 4.5 + 2 + 3 = 9.5k
lowest: 4.5 + 4 = 8.5k

compare with proposed 4 large port one:

max: 3k*4 = 12k
average = 10k (mix of dual screamer and dual jack)
min: 2k*4 = 8k

As you can see this damageoutput is somewhat balanced. Only agaisnt the big targets (and for real bombingwork... the 4 largeport one will shine although you still have to take into account the energyconsumption for launching screamers...)

So the mgc is already a 1 shot kill for hog and down (but only if it is dead on). So I really don't see th eproblem in it.

But maybe thats only me :(

I would love to see more large ports on a ship. For killing caps, I use missles, and while choas missles rock, stingray missles are cheap and pack a punch. (rockects are for komakozies)
Almost all my favorite weaps are L-port. Megiposi, AGT, Chaos, ... (only sunflares and rails (and minerial scanners) make S-ports stand out)
I don't care if it has any cargo space, I'll just jetison all my ore for someone else to pick up. Man could I mine some roids with 4 L-ports.
I NEED AN 8 L-PORT SHIP!!! (P.S. please throw in 3 S-ports, thx)

Let's not go overboard with the L-ports. We don't even have a 3-L port ship, much less a 4 or 8 L port ship. Remember that every L port can launch another swarm. Why don't we start with a rag that has 3 L ports and 1 s port? Or how about a whole new ship model? Like this:

Now THAT looks like something that could have 3 L ports.

That's the reason that the Behemoth Mining Variant needs to be an elite variant with very high level requirements. It should be a kind of trophy to advanced miners.

I propose that its level requirements be as follows: - / - / - / 13 / 8.

With a required Mining license of level 8, which most players do not have, equipping it with a small port or mineral scanner port would be a deserved trophy for all that mining/prospecting work. It would give some actual meaning to mining, since then there would be an actual meaningful reward for working very hard at mining.

The regular Behemoth makes trading easier for relatively advanced traders, and I think that its statistics should stay the same, but that its level requirements need to be increased to at least - / - / - / 13 / 4. Then it would make sense for the Behemoth Mineral Variant to require - / - / - / 13 / 8 and have a small port for addicted miners (assuming they exist). It would actually make a meaningful difference in mining efficiency for the most hardworking miners, who would probably deserve a reward of that kind at some point anyway.

Personally, I don't enjoy mining at all in either a small-capacity Aggresso or a non-scanner-equipped Behemoth, because it's just not worth the pain (I'd much rather trade), but if there were such a reward waiting at Mining level 8, I'd probably mine much more often.

Most players don't have mining 8? W00t! I'm special!

Perhaps you are. I only have Mining License level 6 myself, and the only person in my guild who has Mining 8 is the commander.

Currently, I only mine about once a month because it is so tedious compared to trading. I'm tired of choosing from among mining slowly with a single L-port Mineral Marauder, carrying only 50 cu at a time with an Aggresso, or carrying mostly worthless ores from low-percentage 'roids that are easily remembered and located without a mineral scanner in a regular Behemoth (because I hate to waste resources, I never dump my cargo unless under attack and therefore actually carry every single crate that I mine, and I never leave crates as markers outside asteroids because of potential spying). A very-high-mining-level Behemoth Mining Variant would give more incentive to my mining.

I once group-mined while back in TGFT (I'm now in SB), but the two other miners in my group also only had levels 4 and 5, too.

I've mined single in a moth... It's just a matter of good planning to be able to remember where your awesome roid is. Even if it's way far away.
Jul 03, 2005 terjekv link
I've mined around 2K helio, 6K Denic, 4K lanth, 1K apicene and a lot of other clutter in a Moth with no scanner. I fail to see the problem. a better reward for avid miners would be some sort of beacons for their roids, they already have a 750M scanner and you don't scan in a ship like a moth anyway.

we can now queue the debate on how to implement beacons safely.

Hasen't this been suggested? the becon thing? I do like it.

(I thought this thread was about rags, try to keep on topic, I know that good ideas are hard to keep in.)
