Strictly speaking, only one person can use the account. Allowing more than one person on at the same time reduces the profit guild gets, it's basically just giving you several accounts for the price of one. Great for the consumer, bad for the company.
Jul 02, 2005 Harry Seldon link
No. It's not a good idea. Because if this were to happen, the need for accounts would be cut in 1/5 (I think), because 5 people could use the account at the same time, which would decrease the profit of Guild Entertainment greatly.

I agree. Bad idea. But I do believe there should be discounted "family packages", for those who have like three or more family members wanting to play the game at the same time. That would be neat. But then you run into the issue of proving that you're part of a family and not just three or more guys who decided to get together online to share an account. It's sticky business!

Jul 03, 2005 katcha2 link
c'mon.

just hear me out:

i go on. i pay. me and my m8s decide on a way to pay for it together (we cant afford it, you see- u no how it is)and then we go on. Guild software is now getting another $9.99 a month. all of the experienced player arn't gonna quit their accounts, and join some one else, cos they will lose all their stats. n00bs wont do it, cos they either dont no anyone else, or they dont no how.

I betca that there are loads of people that will come on if they can pay with m8s, and go on together. But, if they CAN'T go on together, then NONE will go on, and guild software is missing out on quite a few $9.99's a month. do you see my reason?

I mean, overall, guild software would gain, oh, $50.00 a month, i'd say. and while money is also lost, MORE IS GAINED!

now do ya understand?

i guess if you all still say no, then this is my goodbye.

well...

Uuuuuuhm... no.

If you can't afford $10/month, odds are you can't afford $3 - $4 per month. Just think of what $10/month is worth:

A couple of beers
Two Wendy's fast food combos
Ten sodas at a vending machine
1/10th of a good pair of sneakers
2.5 Starbucks drinks

If you can't give any of these up per month, then well, you don't have the money.

And on another note--that just leaves too much room open for abuse. The devs are nice to give us six players (there was once serious talk of limiting that). It's just too confusing if you have multiple people sharing characters.

Now, here is a suggestion in the same vein that might be worthile:

Family plan
- For those who have several in one house who play Vendetta.

$19.99 per month, 15 characters, up to three people can log on at the same time. However, there is just one forum name.

Hmm... good idea or not? I'm not sure, but every per-month services usually has a sort of family plan. I don't know about VO, though. Should the server make sure they all have the same IP address? Should it give them alternate forum names? I dunno...

well, then.

i guess this is my goodbye. bye.

never really knew anyone.

sniff.

bibi all.

Well, that was fun.

1. n00b posts thread that is identical to several others over the past year or so
2. n00b gets a nicely put list of why his idea wouldn't be economically feasable
3. n00b leaves
4. ???
5. profit!
Jul 03, 2005 katcha2 link
ok, i wont leave.

yet

if either of you sircamps and rougelazer can give me 10 good reasons why it wouldnt work, that i cannot think of a deacent reason agaist, then i will go home and play with my baby toys.

well?
Jul 03, 2005 Arolte link
I don't usually do this but...

Just leave then. You're wasting everyone's time. It's YOUR decision whether to play or not. Nobody else's. Nobody's going to hold your hand or make you a top-ten list of why you should stay. And threatening the devs to cancel your account or stop playing over one suggestion is downright rude in my opinion. If you don't like the game, don't play it. If you do, just pay up like everyone else. Nobody's pulling any teeth here.

How about taking an economics course? I'm sure that'll give you plenty of reasons...
Jul 03, 2005 Fnugget link
Gee, if VO was free, everyone would play it! YAY! Guild now has a bunch of people playing VO! Oh wait, they aren't getting any money. Okay, lets make it cost a lot, like WOW, $15 a month! YAY! Guild gets a whole lotta mulah, from like, 2 people? Lets make it only $10! Its pretty decent for most MMOs and theres a good starting amount of people to pay it. Oh wait! It's actually only $6 a month if you play it for two years! That's like, the cheapest thing EVER! Too bad not all the content is in yet. =(
Jul 03, 2005 Eldrad link
The main reason that this suggestion is unlikely to be implemented is you're asking for a reduction in price. Vendetta is one of the least expensive MMOs if not the least expensive.
While you might be right that no one except you will use this to reduce their costs, but in that case you're asking for a personal reduction in price which will also is unlikely to happen.

ahem.

nothing prevents you from sharing an account. My father logs on occasionally (very rarely as his hand eye coordination SUCKS lol) on my account to play as one of my unused character slots. We had a family account for ultima online and a few other games as well.

no game can prevent this because the subscription is paid for and implicit in that payment is for 24/7/365 access by that account barring server downtime, unforseen outages etc etc, unless the account has a monthly time limit.

What you CANNOT do, in vendetta and other MMO's, is play 2 or more players at the same time on the same account. When I am using the account my father cannot log in and duel me.
(which is too bad cause it would be the only game i would have a chance of winning in. he kicks my ass in strategy/wargames all the time cause i dont have enough patience)

The account is limited to 1 iteration logged on at any given time, this prevents people from sharing an account without paying for the bandwidth needed to run 2(or more) server connections simultaniously.

As far as a family account sir camps, I would think a more graduated setup, maybe $15.99 for 10 characters and 2 simultaneous logins, and $21.99 for 14 characters and 3 concurrent logins. each additional login would add 4 character slots and another simultaneous login for an extra $6.00.

That said; i'm still not sure it is a good idea. I can forsee some potential cheating occuring with a setup like that, where one player can log on as 2 characters and kill himself repeatedly for pk badges and the like, but such behavior could be fixed by changing the way PK badges are handled, which is a whole new topic.
Jul 03, 2005 sissoko link
Besides the economical aspects which have been so eloquently put by others, it opens up for the ppl to play with 2 chars simult. at the price of what other MMOG's cost. ppl can still afford it and its much easier and opens up a world of cheating, multiple logins aren't going to happen..
