Group Options

A minor annoyance, but simple fix:

Group leader options:

Friendly Fire: 1/0 (1 allows you to damage others in your group, 0 turns FF off)

Group Enemy Targeting: 1/0 (1 allows you to use "target nearest enemy/target enemy in front" to target group members, 0 turns it off)

Also, possibility to take single player missions when there's no group mission active. Sometimes there's a need to group with other player just to make communication easier, why force us to do group missions with it...

I agree with the targeting, but I don't agree with friendly fire option. I think friendly fire should be turned on ALL the time, regardless of who is on what nation. And I don't mean just for groups either. Get rid of those magical shields, period. PLEASE!!

=)

Just a thought, weren't those magical sheilds in the backstory? :P

Is it mentioned in the story, VincentV? I didn't really read it all the way through. Can someone post references if that's the case?

I don't know, I'm just not too crazy about the whole idea of friendly fire being turned off. People should be allowed to attack whoever the want, or make mistakes and deal with the consequences. In other games I never play in servers where friendly fire is turned off, 'cause it just kills the "realism" of it and makes gameplay less exciting. Taking shots recklessly into a crowd of players without any worries or consequences is anything but exciting. It also removes the fun strategy of causing your enemy to accidentally shoot one of their own.

Well, the no-friendly-fire-within-a-nation is not described in the backstory. The "shields" in the backstory are first described towards the bottom of Chapter VI: "The technology of monitoring and focusing the energy of a meditative monk has been further refined to produce an intriguing device. The so-called "Energy Focus" can be used by a highly trained monk to produce a seemingly impenetrable field, formed from a variety of spiritual life energies. The form of this field is adaptable by the thoughts of the monk, depending on the skill and abilities of the individual. The discovery is hailed as opening a new field of science, but few immediate applications are found. Many of the upper level members of the Order acquire Energy Focus devices for experimentation and as teaching tools, to give form to thought and aid in conceptual description."

The Enegy Focus is first used to shield a ship is in Chapter IX of the backstory. "The Abbot himself had not been idle. He, like many academics, possessed an energy focus, largely as a teaching aid for rendering geometric concepts. Now, however, he employed it as a shield for his transport."

But the use of a Enegy Focus to shield a ship is not a valid explanation for the no friendly fire within a nation. Only the most highly trained Itani monks would be able to use an Energy Focus this way, so all Serco & UIT ships, and most Itani ships, would not have the shielding. Also, the shield from the Energy Focus would not apply specifically to friendly fire, but would be a general protective shield, from friendly or enemy fire.

Anyway... I don't mind the friendly fire protection, but I wouldn't mind if it was removed, either. I'm more disappointed that you didn't read the backstory thoroughly. It's an excellent read.

Beo... notice that's only the Itani. The Serco really have no advantages whatsoever according to the backstory.

Cloaking isn't an advantage? Although it's not clear whether that's Serco only, or they reverse-engineered it from Order of Akan ships. I initially thought it was Serco only, but after re-reading it, I'm not so sure. I would like it if Serco had cloaking, and Itani had shields. But both would need to be introduced at the same time, to keep things more-or-less balanced. But that's getting a bit off-topic for this thread, I'm going to try to move this discussion over to the "Give the Races More Diversity" thread: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10826

Organic-Mechanical interface isn't an advantage also? All the serco are hopped up on nanites. Stronger, faster, smarter, etc. And can interface with there ships directly. That to me is a big advantage, though it has also not been implemented in-game as of yet.
