Turbo Thrust

Jul 26, 2005 Beolach link
Couple things I'd like to see with turbo thrust. First, what I expect everyone will agree on, could we please have the turbo thrust displayed on the Buy/Sell/Select Ship screens? And while you're editing those screens, you could change the unit of force for both turbo & regular thrust to kN, instead of N.

Second, and what will probably spark some arg^H^H^H discussion, I'd like it if more ships had a higher turbo thrust than regular thrust. AFAIK only the Behemoth & Tunguska Mining Marauder have different turbo thrust from their normal thrust, everything else has the same for both. Especially for the ships with high turbo drain, like the Corvus Vulturius, I think they ought to have a higher turbo thrust, because with their high turbo drain they have to have a higher battery level in order to get up to speed. If they had a higher turbo thrust, they could accelerate & get up to speed in less time. I'm not thinking it should be a lot of extra turbo thrust, but maybe 5 to 15 more kN on ships w/ a turbo drain of 60 or more. Maybe even on some of the 55 drain ships.

Yes, Stamp of approval.

I'm not sure about this. It seems that ships accelerate a lot faster under turbo in general. Anyone feel like testing this?

They do, but not because they have higher thrust (again, AFAIK). As your velocity approaches its maximum, your acceleration decreases. Since the maximum velocity when turboing is higher than normal flight, the acceleration stays higher for a longer period of time.

eeeeenteresting... now /me wonders what sources terjekv has that I don't...
Jul 26, 2005 terjekv link
I asked the devs a while ago.

/me goes & sulks in the corner, they didn't answer me when I asked.

But anyway, it really should be shown in-game. Then I would know, and wouldn't have to be jealous of terjekv.

[edit]
And I still think the higher turbo drain ships could use a bit more thrust when turboing. The high drain means they have a very limited time that they can turbo, and to balance that I think they should reach their max speed faster than they do now.

if it makes you feel any better, you just might be able to get this information both ingame and via a web interface soon enough.

Wow that's really useful for picking a ship for racing. Didn't know the ibg was that much better.

Wait wait... so the Biocom XT DOES have a purpose... it has the best turbothrust->Mass of any light fighter. *Me considers upping Biocom... yay piracy!
Jul 26, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
I wouldn't yay to early before you tested it out properly... you'd be just dissapointed afterwards
Jul 26, 2005 Shapenaji link
Well, I know its traditionally been terrible,

but that's cuz nobody really had the numbers to justify using it to catch people... might be worth it
Jul 26, 2005 terjekv link
uhm, the XT has a turbo drain of 65. I doubt you'll be doing any hunting in that thing in the near future.

on the upside, I can test any ship you'd like to test Shape. :-)

told you so :D

/me hides under a roid
Jul 26, 2005 Shapenaji link
well, I hunt in a rev C, that has 65 drain now too right?

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Go Biocom XT!

I flew that damn thing for a couple of weeks just because I was bored with centurions. Somehow I thought it has a bit more damping than the other vults ( me goes poke at terjekv ).

But yeah, +65 drain makes it completely useless as a chaser. (Sorry Shape)
