Energy weapons...

Aug 19, 2005 UncleDave link
...well, what if they drained the target's battery?

More so than your own.

Hit someone with a stream of neutrons during a chase, 5 hits, and their battery charge goes down 100.

Now if jumps needed a certain amount of energy to make, and you're turboing away at the same time... if you're getting HIT while this happens, you can't. This wouldnt PREVENT running, only give the skilled pilots a way to stop people from escaping.

This wouldnt even affect duels considering the fact that its hard to land a stream of hits on a decent opponent, only make high-speed chase combat more interesting and would no longer allow a player to simply jam the turbo key and get the hell out.

soo many complaints about running and i dont like it cuz what about the poor traders edit rich traders which will be poor.

I dunno... I'd rather have weapons (like my missile suggestion) that could kill a turboing target, rather than draining energy. Although, perhaps if there were a weapon type that drained energy and dealt little or no damage, that might be workable (okay, sounds like I'm ripping off Star Wars' Ion Cannons, but in terms of game balance, I think that it makes the most sense if the draining cannons didn't do any worthwhile damage... It'd be too powerful, otherwise, I think.)

Yet another thread about running!!!! Come on, keep it to the other threads UD!!!

Runnings are not the problem, catch them at the station if you didn't get your kill, or wait for them to come back, you obviously were the victor if they are running away.

RUNNING DOES NOT NEED TO BE FIXED!!!!

yea i agree and its like the thread o moth nerfing its not really the moths its you need to adapt but it did need a little but besides that you just need to adapt

hmm, but everyone other than you thinks it does...

Shape, Not everyone does, just they are too scared to say anything for fear of being ostrisized by elitests like yourself.

ah, elitists... funny how much that word gets bandied about... what do I do that's elitist? (Probably opening up a can of worms and hijacking a thread I agree with, but I think it would be useful to know)

I dunno... I thought that UD's idea was a good one. The community's been wanting jump interdictors (to add another facet to pirating) for a while.

Another whine-thread about running...

Any of you realize the rules that would keep a 'runner' in your crosshairs would also apply any time you drop into a storm-sector full of Prosus?

Let me guess... You don't 'run' out of the sector until you've cleaned it of bots, do you?
Aug 19, 2005 UncleDave link
Uh, lets see. If youre not getting hit, you can jump. Just requires you to dodge instead of holding down turbo.
Aug 19, 2005 Chimaera link
yeah, not to mention that its easy to get a LONG way away from bots, even if you DID have to stay still, which UD wasn't suggesting, it would still be easy to get away from bots.

that and with the new hive it will be possible (and desireable) for stations to offer missions to ensure that the direct trade routes are kept clear of hive infestation.

CrippledPidgeon: I don't care if you're ripping off star wars - I like it =P

if you're going to make weapons that can drain energy, it's best to make one that does that specifically - protecting the balance by making a pilot give up a (large)weapon port for the ability to do it(!interceptors).
Aug 20, 2005 CrippledPidgeon link
well I had just been approaching it from a balance standpoint. Basically yea, if you want to have a weapon that drops an enemy's energy level (and thus prevents him from jumping), it needs to have a drawback, like no dealing damage, and causing a player to have to sacrifice damaging firepower to keep someone in the area longer. And then after I wrote it, I was like, "oh... Star Wars Ion Cannon.... oh well."
