The Economics of the Leviathan

Aug 22, 2005 Cunjo link
are simply too off-balance..

I spent over 2.5Mcr (probably closer to 3) on a levi battle saturday night. after the levi was destroyed, all I got was a ragful of heliocene?

I think there should be some kind of military bounty on the thing, that would at least partially cover the cost of fighting it (which is very expensive, to the bombers especially). Ths cost/benefit scale is so top-heavy that nobody will want to fight them (I know I don't)

Also, I died before it was destroyed, so didn't get any XP. shouldn't the XP extend to party members within the system that fought it, and not just the sector?

The idea is that you DON'T fight the levy. Normal players only fight the smaller ships (Settlements), and perhaps occassionally a Bastion. Attacking a Levy is supposed to be something that a whole Guild on an Epic Mission would do. With capital ship support.

eh, I've fought levi-battles with people and not lost more than a few ships, I fail to see why one would spend 2.5M credits on it? popping the levi took time, not credits, last time I tried it. =)

the levi isn't done yet. It's gonna get a LOT harder (i hope) and creating a reward for it should wait until then.

right now destroying the leviathan is far too easy compared to what it was meant to require to destroy to be assigning rewards to it. Besides, 2.5 million credits is pocket change.. thats literally just a few hours of mining/shipping.

This may be off on a tangent, but I would like to see the capability to clear (at least temporarily) various sectors of any bots. I'm hoping this will be part of the planned Levi AI. I'm thinking that it would allow a group effort to clear a sector (i.e. for mining) for a determined amout of time, before the Hive sends more bots, possibly with guardian escorts. Rinse and repeat.

That is the case in Sedina now, and will be the case throughout the universe when the new Hive code is applied to everywhere. In fact, it is not even necessary to killing all the bots in a sector to clear it, it is only necessary to kill enough to "scare" the Hive bots into retreating. See "Hive Outward Conquest" in the Design Wiki: http://design.vendetta-online.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hive#Hive_Outward_Conquest

[edit]
Note, however, that the Hive in Sedina now is on an accelerated cycle for testing purposes, so the sectors do not remain empty for the full 48 hours described in the wiki.

How's this for a reward: when you destroy the Levi all bots in the system explode, allowing players to mine and trade freely throughout the system for 24 hours?

Yeah Phaser has it. When this thing starts cramping down on whole systems attacking player owned stations, chocking trade lanes, and making mining impossible. I will become way more profitable to kill it then to leave it.
