Excellent idea. Right now scanning for minerals is just a pain. This would create an advantage as well as losing a port for a beam. A tradeoff in what you want. Brilliant. I second this.

uhm, if you've done 120 prospecting missions, you get a scanner that has a range of 750. giving a better scanner (albeit L-port) to people at mining 5 would make prospecting even less of a point.

Not everyone can finish the prospecting missions, or wants to work factions high enough to do so. Personally, I hate how they have the prospectiong mission reward, utter waste of an item. Same with the UFC Battery.

If you make an L-port Scanner... then bump it up to 600 or so... do NOT make it better than the master prospecting mission reward.

And the idea of an L-port Scanner is silly anyway.

i don't see a need for a L port scanner.

if you want a scaner take a centaur, or a mineral maud, or a mineral hog, or a wraith.

the only reason to make an L port scanner is to give it to the moth, and that would further worsen the divide between the moth and the other trade ships.

the behemoth should not be the best ship for every situation.

and the reason good items are the reward for tedious activities, is to make a distinction between player-roles.

i can't stand prospecting missions so i have to make do with the normal scaner. if i want to get the better scaner i have to be a prospector, and that means taking prospecting missions. if everyone can have acess to every item then why bother having levels, or missions?

Perhaps make the master prospecting advanced scanner have a range of 1.5k? After all it's one of the hardest badges to get imho. It just takes so damn long, the reward oughta be worth it.

I obviously didn't realize that the master prospector badge gave an L-port scanner, that's cool... I guess if people really want a scanner on their moth they can complete the prospecting missions.

If they make an L port scanner, it should have 750m, just as the Adv scanner from prospecting. Having a s-port 750m scanner is better than a l-port 750m scanner. There are two ways technologies can go. Either they get bigger and better, or just as good but reduced in size. In that case, we need an s-port beam mkii that's just as good as the l-port mkii.

I'd MUCH rahter just see the MOTH get a varient with a SMALL PORT than waste my space and time with an L-port mining beam...
