Sounds like a good idea to me.

Me too.

And then you pick it up and sell it! Cool...

Oh and the special sjhips should drop rare ore, they are extremely strong and a ore like that would sell good.

Yeah! sounds great!
It would help newbs be more productive, sooner, by collecting scrap from the bots and sell it for much profit.

Ok, playing devils advocate, all those newly dropped scrap metal widgets are forcing the database to update the universe continually and perform garbage collection when they time out. Is the CPU hit worth the minor 'neato' factor?

Well it could last for a very short time. Perhaps the same exact time it takes for the explosion effect to disintegrate. That way you'd have to quickly fly through the explosions to collect the scrap. But then again if so many ships explode at one time, the server is gonna have one hell of a time figuring out which scrap parts to add and delete for every single explosion. Can we say lag? Hmmm... it'll be tricky. I like the idea, but at the same time I wouldn't want to see pink dots all over an entire sector.

why would we have to radar them? hell, radar is aleard cluttered some time. leave em off. And i personaly wouldn't like my cargo hold to fill up with scraps when i'm trying to give cargo. So manybe a free attachment that could be turned on or off could be used for collecting the scraps.

It's not really an issue of radar clutter, but rather having the server keep track of every single scrap widget dropped. Imagine all the creating and deleting it would have to do. Lag city.

Inventory updates are deferred until sector transitions. Keeping track of cargo boxes isn't a big deal. They disappear after ten minutes or something, so it isn't like there's going to be a gigantic buildup over time.

In fact, I'm going to start making some bots leave behind scrap metal randomly. *resists urge to create a -1 Rusty Halberd Widget*

Cool. I'm glad to know it is doable.

/\/\/\/ Attention a1k0n. You are under arrest for playing too much D&D. Come out of the building now with your hands up. Now, drop the halberd... I said, drop the halberd. This is your last chance. Stop running at me with the halberd. FIRE!!! /\/\/\/
:P a1k0n, when can we expect that by (version-wise)? That sounds really cool...

a1k0n, make a widget limit in a sector, a couple people including me made s7 a laggy place to be befor 3.2, dock buy widgets, undock, dump, dock, etc. Hrmm any chance that is related to s7 crashing right befor the 3.2 update?

I doubt that had anything to do with it. We set up >1000 mines in sector 1, no lag. We detonated them and the sector didn't crash.

Umm we set up like the same number of widgets, mine displays and widget globs are two different things, widget globs are in one area, mine displays are spread out. and it lagged like crazy in 7.
