Audio Immersion

The ship engines need a bit of audio tweaking. They all sound the same, and is kinda similar to a vacuum cleaner. Lets give those engines a deep rumble like a harley , turbo should shake the whole ship , especially a Moth. I realize its an electric engine , however , for the sake of game play , make that thing rumble.

Heh, with my bass all the way up things vibrate on my desk as it is.

Does anyone remember the thread where people kept asking me to reduce the bass from the turbo noise, because it was rattling their windows too much? And then I did. <sigh>.

pssst, bass toggle button. You know you want to add it inc :>

It doesn't need to rumble a ton all the time. If it even just started fierce and loud, it would be good if it faded away more. A little bit of a screen shake when going into turbo would be good too.

I think Freespace did this really well. I'll post a snippet later...

Heh Incarnate... must be hard to tell the will-of-the-general populace from: "vocal minority." I can't begin to imagine the headaches.

Just make the game the way you want. ;p

Heh, I think I was the one who wanted it toned down the most. I found it really irritating when combined with "turbo tapping" of days gone by. It'd probably be better if the noise didn't have such a sudden onset, but as you gained velocity began to rumble loudly.

Just goes to show, you can't please everyone.

I don't care either way about putting more bass back in, but I do agree w/ Taljin that a wider variety of sounds for the different ships would be nice.

I'd like to see different levels for different ships. Like a moth has more bass than a cent.

I'd also love to hear more sound in general from the game. How about sound FX for worm holes and warping in/out of a sector?

You know, I've caught almost nothing but largemouth bass this year. Used to catch nothing but panfish. So there's too much bass in the lake now that we've taken it out of the game.

Yeah, we do need a foley artist.

I might be able to give you the number of my cousin who works at Skywalker Sound... Well probably not, I doubt they'd let her do anything freelance like that. You'd probably have to contract Skywalker Sound, and that would probably put Guild Software out of business.

But definitely, some good rumbly bass would be great for turbo. Maybe have differing degrees of coarseness to account for engine damage, as well as different types of rumbles for different types of ships. Ships geared for raw engine power (like the centurion) would have a really nasty powerful turbo sound (like raw V8 power), and ships geared for smoothness (like any trader ship, basically, or anything with infiniboost) would have a smoother roar.

I've already got a few sounds cooked up that would work for engines.

Devs, I'll email you when I get something that you might be able to work with. Soon™

In the meantime, might you guys tell me what kind of samples you need to make a patch for engine acceleration/deceleration?
