Cargo status slider

Aug 30, 2005 Taljin link
Would it be difficult to add a cargo status slider to your hud , something that let us know how much cargo space we have left in our hold. Just fit right over the cargo info screen , and list the individual cargo numbers an example would be , you have 18 cu space in your hold , you picked up 6 pieces of space junk, each weighted 2cu except the last one that weighed 1cu , the slider on the hud would immediatly go to 11 showing you had 7 more pieces of junk you could carry .

I've wanted this for a while as well, for those who switch up there ships often, it's sometimes slips your mind how much space you have.

tidbits like this would be very nice to have, I'm just a bit curious if this should be implemented short term or if one should think about modularising the flight UI and allowing things like this to be add-ons / plugins that people can develop.

this would, theoretically in the long term, lessen the work on the UI for the devs. :-)

I'd be satisfied if the jettison menu showed how much space you had left.

but I like this idea too.

Especially terjekv's idea regarding the modular interface. Excellent.

My only issue with leaving all the development up to the player is that not every player is a developer, or a programmer for that matter creating an uneven playing field between everyone.

The cool developers would release their plugins to the playerbase.

Or, Guild software would become a holding area for all plugins, and you could install the ones you liked, discard the ones you don't. You can't use the plugin unless it's public on the Guild SW website.

this works great for things like WoW, people share UI plugins like mad. why should VO be any different? and it's not all the development, it's patching up bits of a framework.

besides, the playing field *isn't* the same for everyone. peoples hardware, reaction time, latency, dodge binds and skill are all tweaking that balance already. compared to these things, where you have your radar, how big it is, and what it shows is a minor thing.

A modular HUD has been part of the design spec for quite some time.
