True "epic" nation vs nation battles

Iv'e been playing this game for awhile now, and it is a great game. One thing I would like to see added however is a true "epic" space battle of nation vs nation. The sense of something like the huge battles seen in the Star Wars movies or something.

I know the CTC mission is similar, but I have an idea for everyone to be in the same sector fighting, thus giving a huge ongoing battle. Give input on this - as this is a rough draft of an idea I think would be fun, as well as give a true sense of being on nations. Here is the idea:

Have a sector in grey space, say like Odia F7 (an empty sector), and place a "beacon" in it. This could be similar to a station - but just a stationary object. The object would be for a nation (Itani, Serco, UIT) to "control" this beacon for lets say 5 mins without losing its control. This could be done by a player having to be in a close proximity (100m) without getting killed or leaving, for the 5 mins, or by capturing a flag of some sort off of it and having to stay within like 500m of the beacon for 5 mins.

The object would be if you control this beacon your nation would get a bonus (10% more damage done, or 10% cheaper ships, or something on the order of this). This would actually bring whole nations into the same sector, in close proximity for huge battles, because there is something worth fighting for. I believe this would be a great way to bring the pvp aspect in for a true meaning, and make it so nations would actually want to work together for an epic battle.

Let me know if this is something worth it or not, and any more input or ideas you might have on this, because I think it would be a lot of fun.

used to happen in Sedina B-8 with the cap ships, but then it got boring and no one came so the devs/guides stopped spawniing the ships. Someday this might happen, but the population and the current state of the game just doesn't support it.

Well the cap ship battles used to be fun till we got the insta kill mining beams.
That really sucked the life out of it.

I couldn't agree more, there should only be a few (2-3 at most) and should be larger and use solely to attack other HAC's. The turrets were fine for disabling intercepters. They just need to add rocket and missle turrets as well to attack bombers and long distance attackers.

Agreed, Kix. Players complained that the capships were too easy to kill, so the Devs replaced the AGT turrets with insta-kill beam weapons. A little TOO far methinks.

I agree. The large capship battles were pretty fun. I think let's change the capships' weapons back to AGT's and let'em spawn every 4 hours in the three sectors immediately around Sedina.

Yea, I should have done this long ago. I've been wrapped up in new features. I'll try to make sure these simple changes are made for the next update.

I actually never really liked the Cap Ship battles all that much. Not because they weren't fun, but because they were just more of the FPS mentality, "Let's get together and shoot each other", just with bigger ships ships. I REALLY, REALLY want to see more role-playing aspects for combat. Why are our Cap Ships all going to Sedina B-8 to shoot at each other? Why is the UIT Cap Ship shooting at either the Itani or Serco Cap Ships, and why are the Itani and Serco Cap Ships shooting back at the UIT? It doesn't fit well with the backstory and the official stances of the nations. If the Cap Ships belonged to individual players or guilds, then the players or guilds could do whatever they wanted, but all the Cap Ships we've seen so far belong to the nations, but they don't behave the way I think nation owned Cap Ships should, based on my interpretation of the backstory.

What I've wanted to see, ever since the very first (re)introduction of the HAC, was having the *SMV Nemesis invade Itani space, in conjunction with the BP mission. So if the Cap Ship battles are started up again, I'd prefer they were moved to Deneb, and only Itani and Serco Cap Ships should be involved. That would fit much better with the backstory: the Itani and Serco are at war. I know lots of UIT are going to not like this because it cuts them out of the Cap Ship battles, (at least, with their own Cap Ship, they could still fight with either the Itani or Serco), but the UIT are officially neutral in the war. This is not a three sided free-for-all, this is a two sided war, and the UIT (the official nation) are not on either side.

Anyway... that's my opinion. ;-)

That's simple enough to fix Beolach, have a second battle ground in either Latos or in Odia between a black HAC and a Gold HAC, Pirates vs. UIT.

I'm UIT and have NO ISSUES with having the battle moved ot Deneb and your completely right that it would work MUCH BETTER with the backstory. Now if only momerath42 could add that to the update along with the turret alterations!! =)

Heh heh heh, have the Pirate HAC show up a bit earlier, and start popping any non-Corvus NPC traders, and any players who aren't Admired by Corvus. Then the UIT Cap Ship showing up would be in defence of the trade-route. And it would be a way that pirates could actually make a profit, while having fun (right now pirates can choose to either go after NPC traders, or player traders, which means they have to choose profitable, or fun, but not both).

But for that to work really well, there'd have to be some changes to the faction standing system so that players who became Admired with Corvus could not also (at least easily) be Admired by UIT.

i remember a big thread being formed about the insta-kill beams when they first came out. I've always thought there were too many of them. They really sucked the fun out of it. If you take any small ship within 1000m of a cap ship, you're done. Cap ship battles turned into, "everybody get in a turret and hope the other cap ship comes in range on your side" battles.

As for larger battles. I've been speaking with the members of SCAR and I think we're gonna try to plan a SCAR vs. SKV battle. Of course any other Itani/Serco or loyal UIT's would be welcome to join.

the cap ships need 2 thing imo, long range (10km or so) rail gus as their main weapons, and about half their current beam cannons should be AGTs. This will make the HACs more logicle heavy warships. and a little more survivable in close but remember it is a HEAVY ASSAULT CRUSER, it should be very deadly getting close to it.

i also agree that the Itani and Serco ships should fight in Deneb. And a UIT vs Corvus battle would also be cool, or heck maybe the UIT HAC can go after Leviathins.

My problem with the cap ships where that I'd jump in, looking for someone to shoot....and they're all in the cap ship. So I'd get in, and do 1/300000000000 of the needed damage to their cap ship in an hour. Now occasionally one of them would leave the cap ship, and I'd have two options. A) Attack them with the cap ship, and they'll just easily run out of range and back into theirs B) Attack them out of the cap ship, in which case 80% of people ran back into their ship when they got weak.

YES staying in the cap ship was the more effective thing to do, but I felt no connection to it, and had no real motivation to stay in it. Once PC capships come around I'd be willing to spend an hour or two gunning away with no visual progress just so I don't lose my 5-10 mil!

Well, just like in tank warfare, the most effective way to take out a capship... was to use another capship.

Leave the armor the way it is, and let's put those Leviathan Gauss weapons on the capships. Or maybe the AGT's. Whatever is easier.

Then (to make Beolach happy) let's RP our way into a story. Perhaps have a unique cargo item in B-8 that can only be picked up by capships? The three capships fight over it and if the last remaining capship survives long enough to pick up the cargo, the game is over and the winning nation gets a prize, much like Neut 3's. Or something. How about old-style sunflares with the old faster speed and the 16 ammo. Whaddya think?

Capships need uber AGTs... The problem with the beams isn't the damage they do, it's the instantaneous speed and accuracy.. how about some kind of faster, more powerful AGT? to keep things interesting, we could make the Serc ones red, the tanis blue, and the UIT's green (cuz yellow sucks)

As far as cap ship weapons... I would love it if they got some "avalon turrets" that fired 3 avalon torpedoes at 250m/s once every 20s. Long range ship to ship volleys!

The remainder of the turrets could be a mix of super-AGTs and point defense beam turrets.

I remember it well.

I want attacking a capship to be a dangerous mission, flying through flak and AGT fire to reach your target, then releasing your bombload and attempting to exit the target area.

Yeah, I'd like to see Avalons used as "MAIN" weapons to attack other capships.
