Select sound output

Sep 07, 2005 Goroth. link
My sound set up on my computer puts a lot of noise through the bass end. I live in a small house, people get fed up enough listening to music (or the bass noise you can hear in the rest of the house) let alone repeated space gunfire (And I know big speakers in a little house is stupid, but I need them for monitoring). I can change my system audio out to my external sound card, but that can get annoying switching around in my system preferences all the time. An option to run the games audio through a different output than the system output would be useful, I don't know how many other people this would help though.

Thanks

Or you could turn the volume down...

better suggestion:

tell the rest of the tirds you live with..."STFU, i'm playing and YOU are disturbing ME"

that will work!

Koss looks like hardware. Everyone knows it's not the same with the volume down. And considering the "tirds" who live in the house with me payed for the computer asking them to STFU would only solve my problem because I won't have a game to play anymore. All nice tries (maybe), just not the solution I'm looking for. And anyway, this is suggestions for the game not troubleshooting (anything about an applescript or something similar to change my system output whenever I launch and quit the game would be cool though).

I was trying to say.. "Use Headphones?"

Doesn't plugging in headphones to your sound card automatically turn off all other external sound output, and pipe it thru the headphones?

(What kind of comp you running? OS?)

I could plug headphones into my built in sound card, but that would mean plugging stuff in and out etc. My external sound card always has a set of headphones plugged in. That and my only headphones that cover my whole ear (in ear and little headphones are just uncomfortable- funny shaped ear or something- and the clicky adjust fit gets caught in my hair...) uses a 1/4" jack and my built sound card only has a 1/8" jack. I'm using a new iBook running 10.3.9, I don't think that makes load of difference really, unless someone has anything about applescripts apps to do it etc.

Oh, well then I stick with my original assertion. Get some really nice headphones. Koss or Sennheiser. Both good.
And if the headset gets stuck in your hair, um, cut your hair?

Okay now that was obnoxious. (Sorry.)

But, get a mini-plug adapter for your headphones if they don't come with one. 1/4" to 1/8" Adapter. Radio Shack. $2.

And... the iBook has a spot for an additional sound card? Hunh? News to me.

Oh yeah, I had an adapter, dad nicked it. I'll get a new one. I suppose that means I'll be switching my headphones between sound cards or switching the system sound card until I get another decent set of headphones- which is a waste if I'm just too lazy to switch my headphones round. To be honest this is all just me being lazy, it would just save a bit of fiddling if there was an option in game.
Also, no radio Shack in UK, but I can find an adapter. And lots of people agree with the hair cut thing. And the new iBook doesn't have another sound card spot, I'm using an M-Audio firewire solo, which definately seems to be the way to go- external- especially firewire.
