Hello,
Just started playing the game this weekend. So far it is great. However I have noticed a couple of things.

1) Costs of ships and equipment seems way to low. I have already found that the money to cost ratio is to low. IE you make way to much money for how much items and ships cost.
**resolution** Increase cost of ships at the very least, probably higher end equipment too. Also should have a cost to repair your ship depending on damage percentage.

2) Systems seem sparsely popluted with NPC ships.
a)Need to increase the # of NPC ships. Potentially NPC merchant ships that request an escort to another system. Or escorting ships carring politicians or other distinguished figures.
b) Possibly incorporate NPC Pirates that will attempt to steal cargo. The Ion storms seem taylor made as places for NPC pirates to hide. They could scan you and if carrying cargo they could ask you to jettison your cargo or be attacked.
c) NPC police or military, that patrol border sectors. (would play greatly in my following suggestion for smuggling)

3) Smuggling - This was an extremely fun aspect of the classic computer game Privateer.
a)You could buy contraband (like drugs) at bases in pirate controlled sectors. Then you could attempt to transport it back to police controlled sectors and sell for a high profit. The downside is that you would get scanned by police periodically. If they detected contraband they would attack you. This would add a very fun aspect to the game.
b) Another smuggling aspect could be illegal procurement from another Faction. Guild mission could send you to retrieve classified information from a system controlled by another faction. Once procured you would need to get out of that factions space, without getting scanned and destroyed by police or other players. There are many other missions that adding smuggling to the game opens up.

4) The ability for system police to scan your vessel can also be tied into the existing game feature to buy blackmarket parts. The system police can scan your ship, if they detect blackmarket parts (ie parts you do not have a license to own) they can request the part be handed over, and if not they would attack. Just another fun aspect to the game. Helps make the universe feel more alive and immersive.

5) If NPC pirates are added, you can create a Bounty Hunter guild. They would have both missions to hunt down player characters that already exist, or to hunt NPC pirates. They could also have retrieval missions, similar to some of the existing guild missions.

Welcome to Vendetta, Karthoris! :)

Yes. Soon(tm) there is going to be an economy redux where ships cost more, and NPC bots are also getting an overhaul. Regarding 2c: you do know of the NPC Strike Force and the NPC Station Guard, right?

3-4) YES! I couldn't agree more:

5) Bounty hunting is already implemented. Nation governments will automatically place bounties on characters that disrupt trade amongst the NPC convoys. Send a message to the NPC marshal at your nation capital to learn how to become a bounty hunter.

Getting a mission to hunt down an NPC pirate would also be cool, tho.

I did miss the little blurb about the economy redux, thx for pointing that out. :-). I do know about the NPC Station Guard, but what is the NPC Strike Force?

Guess great minds think alike on the whole smuggling issue. :-)
It would just open the game up so much, make the universe seem more alive. And with the way the game already functions I do not think it would be that hard to implement.

Quesion: How do you send a message to the NPC Marshal? Not that I have anywhere good enough of a ship yet. But it would be good to know for future.

Heh heh... if you're Itani or Serco, try wandering into enemy territory, you'll soon find out what the NPC Strike Force is ;)

Use "/msg <charname> blah" to send a private message to any player or bot. Or you can simply target someone and press "h" to send your standard hailing message. You can also hit "t" and then "tab" to send a reply to a private message.

Give me a shout in game if you have any more questions or need assistance. I go by the same name as on the forums.

I am UIT. Anyway thanks for answering my question. I will definetely give you a hail, if I see your online. This game has amazing potentially hopefully it can be taken advantage of. The last online space game I enjoyed playing for more than 1 week was Jumpgate, but even with all the stuff it did right, it's lack of NPC ships made the universe seem stale and not alive, so even it got old after awhile. Hopefully I have found one that I can play for a long while in VO.
