Let's out-pay McDonalds! :P

We have not had much luck finding serious independent investment. We would love to "get real" and hire more people. We make pretty miniscule salaries as it is (I would make more at McDonalds), but we hang on because we want to improve the game and hope to grow the userbase. I have personally spent every dime that I have on this game (about $250,000) and my family has already chipped in everything they could, just to keep us alive back in Jan/04. You cannot get "loans" on a software company, as banks desire collateral that they can sell in the event of company failure, and would have no idea what to do with a few hundred thousand lines of source code.

Devs, I'm certainly not going to begrudge you if you put up a 'Donate' button somewhere on the site. You may not be doing as poorly as you were, but I'm sure the extra income wouldn't hurt. I would likely donate, if the opportunity was there. 'course, I could just sign up for longer periods of time so you folks get your capital right away, but then you go longer without getting paid again. So, do what you want, but I know I wouldn't mind seeing something like that show up on the site. :)

Also, what with the discounts for the long-term billing cycles, the devs actually make less of a profit. Which was why I choose 3 months over 6 or 12.

i doubt they are making any profit-
salary is not profit- feeding your family is not profit- living is an expense-
---still looking for that button
---ooh- if any kind of donation WAS made- we would have to make sure that we could never hold it against them or that if they didnt listen to our suggestion or SIDE with us on a certain topic- we couldnt say 'hey i donated alot to you- WTF?'
but i believe that most people that WOULD offer extra $ would not take that route- and the devs should NEVER feel obligated to anyone- but they (and i hope that they do already) treat all the players equally-

Donate button would be a good idea . Also I think it would be interesting if you could invest in VO. Become a shareholder in the company.

@mikmouse24: I know profit isn't exactly right, but I couldn't think of a better word. Profit is close enough, I think everyone can understand what I meant.

@who? me?: Some people do have multiple paying accounts. I personally don't: I could probably bring myself to donate an extra $5 ever few months, but I've got too much Scottish blood to pay for multiple accounts when I only use one.

Publicly traded shares would be interesting. I know next to nothing about the stock market though, so can't say much on that subject. I'd probably buy shares if I could.

That would indeed be hilarious in an insane sort of way.

@beloach- i didnt mean to sound like i was correcting you- jsut wnted to make it clearer to the other readers :)
- Guil goin g public? no way- then they have to answer to people other than themselves-- Bad idea- it becomes a bottom line issue with stocks-
its dookie-

You have to have a specific market capitalization to be in the NYSE or AMEX. Which I don't think Guild SW has. I'm too poor to be overly charitable atm.

They should get in touch with Guy Kawasaki over at Garage.

Hello,

If there is so big problem then you should freeze the development of capital ships and all high level stuff and make the game enjoyable for lower levels.
E.g. the FFXI started with 50 levels at the begining and then they raised it by 5 levels up to 70.

I am too poor for donations but I can offer all my free time to help you.

PS: I feel with you. I tried to make alive a MUD long time ago. After a year of struggle we lost all players and had to shut down the server m(;_;)m

Regards,

Darwood
