OK, so you aint got anything to replace it with, but its in the works.

CTC was fun, I reckon BP is still more fun than it now, specially if people like me decide to play ;P at least in missions like bp they are on an even footing.

If they do that, then they have to do something about the N3--I suggest inflate the levels to about 2.5x the current req's and make them always available to anyone, anytime.

Anywhere!

Nah, just in nation stations-- Itani, UIT and Serco. Corvus might have them as well, but for 6 or 7 times the normal price :P

Except for when nobody's playing, or when everyone's cheating their eyes out, CtC is among the most fun things in the game. I'd hate to see it go. Also, CtC and the BP missions are really the only two game-elements related to the Itani/Serco war. Without them, there's nothing outside of the backstory to indicate that the war even exists.

I'm against removing CtC. Fix the exploit, remove turbo from ships carrying Purified Xithricite, and put a Serco station in Ukari A-10. IMO that'd be all the fixing it really needs.

Please, let CtC stay. It and I have become fast friends.

OH! This is rich! Yoda complaining about ctc? We are talking about the same ctc you and me have been fighting over with our..."new" tactics. And not to mention all the exploitation. Now you come out all innocent and try to get rid of it ROFL.

I've always liked CtC. All the brokeness with it I have always viewed as just another twist in the game that is CtC. Sides well all know the Itani can use any edge they can get. Even with pirates helping (i.e. doing all the work) them last week they still had a hard time pulling off a win.

I would like with the new AI to see real ships being used for CtC and not longer using the "bot" ships. I would love at the end of the week to see moths with valk guards for the Itani side, and moths with proms on the Serco side. I would also like to see more frequent convoys or more cargo on the convoys thus forcing us to use more team work.

I like the suggestions regarding how to improve CtC (other than "fix it"). Deleting features seems rather drastic. It's code! Code is malleable. It's not like it was carved in stone and must be blown up because it's obstructing traffic.

if it's broken, -FIX- it.

I keep sayin', they need to move some routes and/or WHs to get the serco voy OUT OF THE UNIVERSE'S MOST POPULATED COMBAT SECTOR.
Oct 11, 2005 Starfisher link
It's the universe's most populated combat sector because of the serco voy...

Sorry but CtC is pretty boring for me.

On defense 9 times out of 10 it's basically following a bot from Bractus to Divinia, and peeling off bots that attack in ion storms. On offense it's following a bot from Sedina usually no farther than the Latos WH. A lot of times the cargo is purposefully exploded by -Xaing Xi standing Serco or by pirates and the players get the CtC before it leaves L-2, and once a player has the CtC it's pretty hard to catch 'em.

A lot of players switch between alts in order to dominate the CtC. Not technically cheating... but definitely a gray area. One will capture the cargo and then log out or hide 30000m away in an empty sector, denying other players the chance to get it. The other alt will then go after the cargo on the other side.

Last week we saw both sides use the exploit to dramatically increase cargo deliveries. Which is technically against the rules as well, but it's still a... gray area.

Most of us have a limited time to play, and sitting around waiting for a convoy is really super super fun!

I've tried to get into it, but CtC just doesn't capture my fancy. I'll do it if I happen to be in the area when a convoy comes through. I'll deliver to Coranis if I get some Xith. Heck I even started using Neut 3's in an attempt to make myself care about the CtC runs. It's not working. Kind of like eating peas, lima beans & liver. It can be good for you and all, but the experience leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I will not shed a tear if it goes away.

I think it's obvious the devs aren't going to fix ctc.
I don't know how many suggestions have been made to make it fun and fair.
So just delete it and save the universe the lag.
Not to mention the annoying bots left over.

I'd much rather see the devs fic CtC than remove it from the game entirely. Here is my quick list of possible CtC fixes, all written from the perspective of a player who has only been in game for a few months:

1. Make the transport *incredibly* much harder to defeat, even if there are no opposing players protecting them. Why not let each transport be protected and completely surrounded by 20 SCP/IDF Vigilants, and let each actual transport ship be a heavily armoured behemoth-style bot with armour values ranging between 45000 and 80000. (This is how I, from a RP/canon perspective, envision Serco and Itani would protect such valuable cargo. A couple of valent bots? That is practically giving the Xith away fer free...)

Rationale: On my first attempt ever at CtCing, I took down an aerna transport ship in Sedina B8 before the protector escorts had even caught up with us. And even if they had, past experiences at fighting confused CtC bots in Sedina tell me all they would have accomplished would be to delay me for a few minutes, while the aerna transport would have jumped to latos and been taken down by another player there instead.

I wouldn't mind at all if it took a single pilot extreme skills *and* luck, or a large group of players a coordinated effort, to actually take down a CtC transport even if unprotected by other players. And, if a few player escorts rode with the CtC transport, even larger groups of attackers. Perhaps something for the guilds to do together.

2. As others have said, change the serco route to bypass Sedina B8. I suppose Latos would be the best alternative. Perhaps extend the Serco route another jump into serco space, even though this would mean the Serco convoy would travel through protected space for most of it's journey.

3. This might be an extreme suggestion, but perhaps prevent players carrying Xith from loggin off completely (or, rather, allow them to log off, but leave their ship floating in space), thus forcing any Xith carriers to deliver their cargo quickly, or hide for a long, long time. (Immersion-wise, this could represent how the opposing nation would have all their best pilots out looking for the stolen cargo, thus making it extremely hard to hide [log off]).

4. Even more extreme, perhaps add some kind of extreme halflife timer to the Xith ore, thus causing it to radiate away after a set time after being retrieved from the transports protective storage, which would, in turn, force players to deliver it even more quickly and add another challenge to CtC. (This could also open the possibility for equipment that slows down the Xithrite meltdown process, adding yet another feature that is related to CtC.) Perhaps the Xithrite could even react so strongly with everything else that it actually damaged the hull/armour of the ship over short periods of time (unrepairable, of course, as the player cannot enter stations while carrying Xith ore). This could replace the logging off protection suggested above, as players who hide away and then log off would loose their cargo while offline (the xith timer should, of course, run even while the player is offline).

CtC has drastically changed my VO experience (and I was having great fun even before I discovered it), and anything that forces players to work in larger groups to protect and deliver that precious cargo would be wonderful. One of my best VO experiences was aiding a group Itani players protect the CtC transport, which lead to several fun battles and chases as a few Serco players teamed up to bring the transport (and us) down. Hopefully, the above suggestions could give rise to even more such joyful occasions...

Kix: I'm sorry you are frustrated, but it's obvious from the News that the devs are working on the AI for NPC transport ships and escorts - which is pretty much all CtC is. Once they get the NPC behavior dialed in, then it will be time to look at the specifics of CtC again.

Guh that was a stupid post.

CtC is brokenI can't deny that. But leave it in the game. Some people actually love doing it and content even flawed content is good for the game.

So just because you are bored with ctc doesn't mean others are. Just don't do it if you don't want to. But let others have thier fun.

I do hope it will be fixed in the next year though.

Ditto Ion...on points 1. 3. and 4.

Oh...and ditch the exploit unless convoy is in a storm...I think that may be why the exploit works the way it does...to increase the transports survival of storm laden paths...

Re: Ion

#1
Yes, please. Bump up their armor (and other defences), and also slow them down a LOT. Remove turbo from any ship carrying Purified Xith. That will actually allow fights to occur, rather than the races that it currently more resembles.

#2
No. The big reason Sedina B-8 became "The PvP sector" was because it was on the Serco CtC route. If the route was moved "The PvP sector" would likely move, too. Even if it didn't, I still don't think moving the route would be worth the effort: it would either require a large remodeling of the universe (something I'm against), or else would be very difficult to have balanced compared to the Itani route. The only big in-game imbalance on the routes is the Itani station in Edras I-2, that gives the Itani convoy one less unmonitored sector to be destroyed in. Putting a Serco station in Ukari A-10 would balance that, and wouldn't be a major overhaul to the universe.

#3
Currently, whenever players log off any Purified Xithricite they were carrying is left floating in space at the place their ship was when they logged. It's essentially the same as if they jettisoned it, and then logged. I don't see how any changes on this would be any better.

#4
Potentially interesting, but not completely necessary to "fix" CtC. I'd be OK either way with this being implemented or not.
Oct 12, 2005 LeberMac link
Commit to fix it or don't, then follow thru. One thing at a time. NPC AI and Economy first.

And I really like Ion's #4 idea. Kickass.
