Nation-specific chat, among other things...

Perhaps this has already been suggested... but I couldn't find it anywhere I searched... so here goes.

Ok... Channel 100 is great and all... but I, for one, think that the chat needs to be improved. There's lots of different ways to do it - this is just one suggestion. Of course, with all ideas, there are strong points, and weak points.

Nation-specific chat! Fairly self-explanitory. Maybe even remove the ability to have a general universe chat. A system chat, yes... a sector chat, yes... perhaps even a adjacent-system chat (so you can broadcast to neighboring systems) but universe chat is just over-doing it. Maybe you could even make the chat systems buyable. Like communication relay dishes, etc. I don't know. Just some random ideas. But I definitely think that nation-chat would improve gameplay dramatically. It would increase teamplay and also increase the number of large-scale battles.

I'm not so sure about having so many channels of chat either. While it mostly makes sense... the practicality of it doesn't. Just have like 5 in-system channels, and allow the setup of encrypted channels. You can join these encrypted channels, but you won't be able to understand them unless you have the right passcode/word.

I'm not sure what the language backgrounds of the different nations is, but perhaps you could even have them speaking different languages... so to understand eachother, you have to buy a translation device - either by simple newbie mission (or you could even make it for just advanced players), or by buying one.

Perhaps you COULD keep universe-chat, but make it very hard to obtain... and lets say something like... since it takes so much power to broadcast a message through the universe, you could only use the device once every 5-10 minutes or so. I don't know what function that could hold... maybe calling all help to destroy a leviathan or to broadcast it's position or something.

Just some random ideas, but I think they'd be simple ways to increase depth of the game. Communication is a very powerful tool.

••So just to recap
-No universe chat xx or at least limit it
-Nation specific chat (most likely available after missions from nation), with differing sub-channels, such as nation defense, nation general chat, etc.
-Neighboring-system broadcast (Immediately available, or purchaseable, or reward, etc.)
-System broadcast (ditto)
-Sector chat (Immediately available)
-Private channel (Immediately available)
-Differing languages and translation devices

Ooh, just got another idea. Of course, most stations would be outfitted with their own chat systems, so you would only have to pay a small fee (or for free as well) for upper-class broadcasting from within the station, using the station's hardware. Like... a trading channel, or on a nation's military station; a nation-specific channel.
Ah... another one. Perhaps a distress-signal device as well?

Channel 11 is nation specific.

1) there is no universe chat. NO CHAT CHANNEL BROADCASTS TO EVERYONE. If you don't like being on 100, you can leavem and find another channel. channels are there for a reason. Sector chat is the only chat which will be head by everyone in the vacinity, regardless of channels joined.

2) Channel 11 will broadcast only to members of your nation (who are in the channel)

3)... isn't it about time the devs had jannel 11 joined by default? </hinthint>

Doesn't even need to be active, but it would be nice to have everyone get nation chat messages when they first come on, so more could go on there... as it is, nation chat is highly underused, considering the number of things that would be more appropriately carried out there

Whoa. Didn't even know that there was nation-specific chat. As far as "not liking channel 100..." I'm not talking about the option to turn it off. I very much know the reason for the channels. I never said that I don't like channel 100. I'm always on channel 100. I know how to turn off channel 100. That has nothing to do with the suggestions.

Thanks for the link, Beolach.
