Aye, now miners could have a "carrier" kind of like Dune.

Functionality should be limited to on the command deck of a HAC or other capship, and perhaps LIMITED functionality with the assistance of a 2-lport module (or perhaps a cargo-bay modification? give up 50u of cargo space on your taur/moth to build a command room?)

otherwise,

i think a moth is large enough to be a CnC ship but it should have to be a special variant of the moth (or beter yet a new ship of similar size) and probably should acomodate 2 players.

any ship large enough to have a docking bay should have this capability as well

If you scraped all of the cargo room, removed a weapon port, and ditched redundant internals you could have a really cramped command center in a hornet.

You don't need a "new interface" to implement some rudimentary large scale battles coordination.

What you need is a "colour target tagging" system for Group Leaders . e.g. Group Leader can hit "shift-t" (or whatever) to tag a target blue/yellow/grey/whatever, a tagged target will appear blue/yellow/grey/whatever in the radar screen of every ship in that group. Groups can decide before hand what they want each colour to signify.

This is not too hard to implement me thinks, much easier than a complete new interface i bet.

Anyway, a set of pre-assigned "voice chat" like "stay in formation" or "form behind me", ala. many FPS shooters, would be nice too.

Softy2 you can make those commands now by creating a string and binding it to a key. Even use Miharus mulit-button hail bind as a command calls.

I think that a top down though for the commander/admiril in the group will help them to better understand the battlefield and delegate targets better.

softy2,
the idea is to implement signifigant large scale battle corrdination, that can be used to coodinate players and NPCs for large scale combat. while you colour taging system is an elegent solution to issues faced by squadren leaders it adds no functionality to mixed PC/NPC groups and still does nothing to grant the commander a more strategic view of the battle.

and since there is curently a lot of new interface work being done right now, it's probably not as difficult as it would have been up untill now to build a new interface.

Additionally needed is multiple group membership. The supreme commander doesn't have time to monitor and coordinate every single pilot, but instead he has to be reported to by the respective leaders. Those leaders are in two groups, the command group and the respective squadron/echelon group. That way flooding is reduced to a minimum.

This has also been mentioned before.
