Deep Space Outposts

Jun 30, 2006 Ghost link
Why not put 1 or 2 outpost stations from each nation in Grey space. They don't have to be far, like out in Odia, but could be close by in grey. Maybe an Itani one in Pelatus, Serco in Latos and UIT in Sedina. Items at these stations would be expensive, being separated from nation space, kind of like the markup at corvus stations. IMHO this would be realistic as well. It seems to me that if there's unclaimed space out there, each nation would at least have some outposts scattered about as a first line of defense or just for scouting capabilities. I just think that explorers like the UIT and Itani as well as the ambitious Serco would have some outposts outside of their borders.

If such were to be done, I think the UIT should have 1 extra-national station on each side -- 1 in Pelatus with the Itani, and the one in Sedina. The UIT should also have a station on the Azek WH, but I am sure that has been suggested before... Also, I think the UIT station in Sedina ought to be a research outpost monitoring the evolution of the Hive.

I agree. However, not everything should be available, i.e. no Prometheuses, no Valkyries, no Marauders. Neutrons Mk3, yes (Serco/Itani). Serco Vulture Guardians, Itani Border Guardian Centurions, and Territorial Defender Warthogs should be available, repsectively, as well. This just to make it fly with the current state of the game.

N3s, SVGs, IBGs, TDWs, and STORYLINE...

Those stations could serve just for the players to repair and buy ammunition for their ships.

The Itani one could be called Deep Space 9 and I could purchase a Dominion Warship there?

Yes, storyline... and you could have missions like 'lay siege to outpost blah', 'defend outpost blah', 'assemble a group of x players, kill a levi, and transport the remains back to outpost blah' (make levis drop special items... oh wait, we have those...), the list goes on...

edit: Oh, and I want an outpost named 'blah'.

Hmm, but the biggest pain about dying in grey space is how long it takes to get a prom or valk back to grey space after dying =P

and not having those available at any new deep space stations will continue to encourage people to use OTHER ships. :)

You know I would agree with you but I just got the right to fly a valk :)

Regarding the storyline, all of greyspace belongs to the UIT. Read the backstory, check the dev wiki, ask the Devs about it, if you don't believe me. So another nation's station inside the neutral nation is a bad idea.

Plus, these stations are obviously because people want their valks and proms and are too lazy to fly two or three systems over for them. I say that for such good ships the trip is worth it, and I'm pretty sure the Devs thought the same when they arranged the galaxy like they did.

Once Guilds have access to stations, though, if you can build one in greyspace and keep it viable and thus get your valks and proms from there, then it's all good. You'd be working for them then, as opposed to getting an undeserved freebie.

Jex is right, for once. There is also a reason the UIT Senate doesn't have stations in grey space. Want to know why? Think American Civil War but the South suceeded in seceding. They have no more authority in grey space than the Itani or Serco.
