Cap ships at Nation/Grey Borders

Inc, I know I already talked with you about this, I just thought I'd post it here to see what the rest of the community thought of it.

From what I've gathered, stationary cap ships are easy to implement. So what if there were, say, 2 teradons and a HAC constantly sitting on top of the wormholes to nation space. Specifically, both Ukari/Serco space wormholes on the Ukari side, Edras/Jallik wormhole on the Edras side. For UIT maybe caps wouldn't be a good idea since they're more of a conglomeration of independent factions.

Anyhow, these caps would not patrol, but just sit on top of their respective wormhole and guard the enterance to nation space. Not only would this look cool and add a real feeling of entering nation space, but it would provide an effective defense against people hated by a nation sneaking into their space. We all know anyone with a valk or anything with infini-boost can easily run through a hated nation's space. This might make it more difficult to do so. Thus, nation space would actually be guarded.

Also, it gives opposing factions the option of assaulting the borders which could be fun. In the event the guard caps were destroyed, maybe they would have an 8 hour respawn time or something of the like. Or (if this wouldn't be too difficult) maybe they could respawn at the nation capitol and fly back to their guard station where they would again be stationary.

Certainly a great idea.

I'd always hoped that more HACs could be patrolling through serco space (perhaps at least a terra at every wh). The current strike force can't respond fast enough to really catch intruders. The tanis, however, have multiple systems on either side of their capitol. It's hard enough to get a prom in there without being harmed.

It also might help to just have a large stationary strikeforce at Geira L15 and Deneb O3.

Yea sure, probably won't change anything unless there's like 3 or 5 of em there though.

I want Luis to make some huge assed ship for defending the wormhole. Like, firing goliith cannon shots huge. Pleeeaase Luis, you know you want to!

How about just a goliath cannon?
Or 3.

Yeah, HACs for the Serco, Goliath cannonons for the 'Tani.

Good idea.

oop... there goes racing.. with as few players as there are atm, I think its better to keep it as open ended as possible. Effectively sealing off large portions of space to many players would suck. A lot. And don't say that a good player could get through the wormhole anyway, cuz that's obvious. New players and especially mining and trade ships will take a hit. Perhaps when there is actually enough stuff to do inside one nation's space to keep people busy, then a few capships would spice it up nicely. Until then,

Putting cap ships on the borders would not get rid of racing. It would make one of the current race courses more difficult, not eliminate it. On top of that, not only are there race tracks in sedina, but other race courses can be thought of as well. Not every race has to go around the entire universe. That and I don't believe either nation would sacrifice defense to allow racers through.

It would also in no way seal off portions of space to many players to whom it wasn't already sealed off. The only players who will have more difficulty getting in are players hated by that nation, in which case, it can be assumed they weren't planning on sticking around anyways unless planning to bot up their standing.

As for mining and trade, why would you be mining and trading with a nation that you are hated by? Come to think of it, how? The only people who would have more difficulty getting into a nation are those who were hated by it, in which case I don't see how you could be trading with them in the first place. It seems to me that large portions of enemy space should be sealed off anyhow if one is their enemy. It should be difficult to get in. Who knows, this might even spice up the Deneb run. It could require some ingenuity to sneak into enemy space.

Please note the only people this would affect are those hated by Itani or Serco. If you're hated by a nation, you shouldn't be able to just waltz into their territory. People who were trading with nations before would encounter no new difficulty whatsoever. If people are so content to not have nation defenses solely for the reason that one single race is able to function, then perhaps temporary standing fixes can be done. They've been done before for many events.

As for leaving things open ended with the few number of players, I'm of the opinon that it's actually better to have a smaller space with a smaller number of players thus forcing them to interact more with eachother. This being opposed to scouring the universe for eachother or being forced to pick agreed upon sectors where players meet to interact. However, I still don't believe that putting cap ships on borders will have this effect anyhow.
