Fee to Illegally Equip Items

Sep 12, 2006 smittens link
I haven't tested it out, so you guys might've thought of this, but it seems like a new player can pick up any weapon, and all they need to do to equip it is fly to a Corvus Station. So maybe there should be a fee/bribe to do so?

How dare you! My 1/0/0/7/0 have fun character wants to use his swarms damnit! I think every god fearing patriotic nooblet should fly to Corvus and buy them too once they get a Wraith!

Here's the thing. Corvus is offering a unique service that can't be done elsewhere: Equip an item you aren't legally allowed to equip in nation space. I agree that there should be some form of extra payment, to pay the workers who install the item or to use the facilities where you install the item. The purpose isn't to punish people for doing this, however, it is more to compensate the people who allow it, which is Corvus. Hopefully when players can own stations, players can set this fee themselves and decide what to allow and not to allow.

It was my understanding they were going to charge for it; it was also my understanding not only Corvus would offer this "service". However, the Devs seem to be working on the feature in steps, since none of these things were possible before. First it was dropping items when you explode, then putting them in the cargo hold if they are at a station, then the License restriction to equip them, and now Corvus doesn't require Licenses. Only two things that seem to be left is have Corvus (and maybe others) to charge for this, and for us to be able to buy weapons in bulk (no more clicking "buy" 120 times in order to fill a moth with AAPs, for example). So it seems like the system, while largely functional now, is not done yet.

Of course, if the Devs want to allow Corvus to equip for free, I see no problem with it. I mean, they already charge an arm and a leg for the equipment they sell (in comparison with prices elsewhere; that the prices are altogether too low is another matter that will soon be corrected) so one could say it's a little bonus; and if you didn't buy the weapon there (or, even better, you took it off someone else) that's just a bigger bonus.

In nation space, Strike force and station guard should scan ships for their equipment. then politely ask the frauders to remove their illegal equipment before being forced to .

I don't see a need for them to charge anything. It might be a stunt by corvus to ttract more of the scoundrels into it's stations.

GRAIG - you cannot unequip something in space.

But you can leave a station without assigning a key to a wep... I was kinda surprised when my flares refused to shoot and I got even more flattened than usual...

I thought there already was a huge downside to the whole "being able to fit/buy stuff you don't have license for", the PRICE TAG and the STANDING with Corvus. Isn't that punishment enough ?

Bringging up an almost forgotten thread just to say that you are opposed to it, is rather counterproductive no?

UniX, prices are cheap and you do not require Corvus standing to equip anything you don't have a License for.

Give us smugglers and black market.
It could be a bot like Marshall in nation capitals sitting in space near Corvus station. Similar portocol as for bounties.
You msg him and he replies what is offered for sale on the black market etc. etc.
You make a deal, pay him and he drops the item you can pick up.

For equipping illegally obtained items you can buy a special Corvus licence /ID/.

I'd rather the black market be mostly just players selling each other "illegal" stuff. Plus, that means devs don't have to put in a new mechanism. I know, I know. We need more players for this to really be fun.

I DO know u can't unequip in space, what i had in mind is that:

I'm coming from bractus with a brand new Level 5 weapon(while i'm a level 2 noob) As soon as I arrived in Edras, A Marshal ( yeah, put them at the borders too) ask me nicely to remove my stuff ( which means find a "Greyed" station to do so ) in order to enter deeper in itani monitored space, or I'll be forced to.
