Corvus Racing Ship

Sep 30, 2006 LeChatlier link
I read the thread about the latest race, very nice. One person commented that they'd have to raise their standing with the Itani faction in order to do so. Is this to get the valkyrie? Because if so I've got a suggestion:

A new special racing ship, weaponless, with 0 cu, and medium armor. Corvus would sell it so it would be available to anyone who wants to race. Perhaps only sold at the starting station for the race? This way it would all be skill. Of course, loadout would still matter I suppose, but still. I know this would take some of the variety out, but maybe more would race this way. Don't even need a new ship model or anything, just take an existing one and make a "racing variant". So. What do you think?

If someone still wanted to race in another ship they could, but this one would be faster and with higher acceleration.

I like it. I think Corvus would be getting much business due to the publicity brought by the Corporate Sectors Run and the Deneb Run. Good for businesses and bars there. Makes sense they'd try to cash in on the racers with a good fast ship, as well as race enthusiasts who want to be like the pros :D

No this is a topic for drunken thread I think

Read it more carefully next time

Valks are not allowed. This is just to not be fired by Itany sf. When flying a moth or a govbus perhaps.

Because if so I've got a suggestion
Very nice and fresh idea.

But I like these suggestions more:

Except those who don't raise their Corvus standing for RP reasons

If someone still wanted to race in another ship they could
Yeah, but why whould they want? That would be the uber racing ship. And wise race hosters would ban it as well as valks.

As far as I know this is not a repeated thread. It's just in the wrong forum, belongs in suggestions.

Previous suggestions are for a fast spy ship, or a blockade runner transport ship. This is for a purely sport ship, useless for anything else. No weapons or space wasted on cargo, armor stripped down to the bare bones. I like the idea.

There are two options, and I like the idea of implementing them both.

There could be two or three new ships that are purely racing ships. Like sporty cars, they could be designed to look sleek and go fast, nothing else.

Also, like people who buy ordinary cars and modify them, there could be a few stations that will modify your existing ship, removing all but the bare minimum of armor, all unnecessary equipment (like weapons), tweaking the engine, and stripping down the structure of the ship to essential parts. You'd have the same ship, but super light, and with no weapons or cargo space. The procedure would be irreversible, but you'd have an awesome racing ship, and it would be different depending on what you started with.

You know, I do use the search function and everything before I post. Aleksy.. your comments don't make any sense. Let me take a leaf out of your book and repeat what you said.

"Read it more carefully next time"
Thanks. Really.

"Valks are not allowed.. etc."
Now this is actually constructive. I don't have an account right now, I'm waiting for cappies and the economy and all that. Thank you for the information.

"Fresh Idea"
This is a new idea, as the other posts are about different types of ships. This ship would be made for racing and not much else. If you can actually find a thread that specifically talks about a special non-nation specific racing ship available to all players, post the link so I can find it. Sheesh.

"Corvus Standing"
Ok, sell it in the nation systems closest to the race start then.

"Yeah, but why whould they want? That would be the uber racing ship. And wise race hosters would ban it as well as valks."

Now this makes absolutely no sense. The reason the valks are banned, obviously, is that not everyone has access to them. If they did then everyone would race in one, unless they just felt like trying out a bus or moth or something. If this ship is available to everyone we won't have that problem!

*smacks himself

I'm sorry about posting it in general, you're completely right, wrong forum.

Tamion is right. Valks are banned not just because they have amazing acceleraton but ebcause they have amazing acceleration AND have an unreasonable expectation of standing to get them. Some UIT and most Serco would not be able to access them.

IMHO, the current best racing ship is the EC-107. It takes some effort to be able to buy them, but it's available to all nations regardless of standing. The fact that you have to work for it makes it special too.

The next best choice, again IMHO, is the Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, because it combines fast with enough armor to survive a quad-rail hit. Again, it takes some effort to boost your Orion standing, but Orion has a station in Latos, which makes it available to anyone.

Well, I'm too lazy to find the proper thread, but let me explain the situation with racing ships.

Currently there are 3 different primary racing ships. 3 is good, 3 is diversity, everyone has own opinion which is best for Deneb Run. That is what they call BALANCE(*)

You want to have the only one proper ship for racing? Isn't it boring?

(*) I'll explain.

EC-107, 65/210/50/0.05512 (normal speed/turbo speed/turbo drain/thrust:mass with FC batt)
Best thrust, but low high speed. Favourite ship of Erik, our current best racer

Vult Mk3, 65/220/55/0.05353
High thrust, high speed, but non-infiniboost. Favourite ship of Mick, who is the second best racer in my opinion

Hornet OCG 65/220/50/0.04203
High speed, infiniboost. The most popular choice these days, actually I use it too (need 28 more bus kills for badge)

For comparison:
Valk IDF 65/225/55/0.07475
Highest speed in game, highest thrust in game (next is Cent IBG with 70/220/60/0.07010). If racing with Mick in Vult MkIII is challengeable, what if he raced in THIS?

IMO all the commercial factions should have their own racing ship variant.
Why? given that most of the factions compete in some way, wouldn't it make sense for them to want a ship with their name on it winning the DR (being the premier sporting event) and gaining free publicity?
Oct 06, 2006 Professor Chaos link
I just think once some sort of crafting is in place and ships are 100 times more customizeable, there will be a lot more variation. Kind of like currently when people modify whatever car, and so any car (almost) can be a decent race car. It should be that way with ships.

Racing stripes on a Behemoth?
Oct 08, 2006 Professor Chaos link
Sure, that would look cool. I'm going to make a garage to work on my Behemoth (which I will refer to not as a "Moth," but a "Hemo"), and it's going to be in a hollowed out 'roid. It would be my "Hemo-'roid."

Actually, that sounds like the old custom paintjob/decal idea.
