Earlier it was mentioned about having three types of hives. One that mines for resources, one that fights people for reasources and one does something else but i can't remember it now.

Why not have the area the hive comes from based off of that areas strength. The hive that comes from serco could fight for reasources and have the strongest weapons of any hive. The hive from UIT could specialize in mining. The hive from the Itani could fight for it to but there ships are specilized in speed or in some other area.

After all the hive came into existance by robots that were being used go out of control and thats what each nation would have built.

All hive bots are descended from drones of the UIT. The Itani had their own methods of resource gathering, as did the Serco.
