Ion Storms - A Real World Perspective

Oct 11, 2006 vitrify link
The new Ion Storms are more interesting (and challenging) but they could be even more so if the Proximity Warning System had the same distance limitations as the Radar.

Also, Ecka made a comment about Ion Storms being easily circumnavigated. If possible, we could add a "Real World" twist to the Storms and create "Squall Lines" or "Lines of Storms" in adjacent sectors, similar to some the Midwestern US lines real pilots have to contend with. Those can be a real headache when they are wide, long and solid and your Radar is on the "fritz."

Sorry. There. Collected myself. It's a known bug. The proximity warning isn't supposed to go beyond 500m in storms.

unfortunatelly, the 500m thing in storm removes any last hope of pirating being a worthy activity in vo.

the unrats removed most of the good spots for pirates.Ęthe single exit jump point was a nice step forward for pirates butĘthe 500m radar limit in storms effectively makes storm camping pointless.

given radars were recently enhanced, why not make in-storm radars wortk to at least 1km?

either that or privide a s-port radar enhancer widget wich doubles (or more?) the effective range.

Inc mentioned an S-port attachment to increase storm radar to 1500m. What's more it's not planned for soon(tm) or even soon but to be released tomorrow! (Remember these are just plans)

I'd imagine the fact that everyone has the same exit point depending on your entry vector would outweigh the radar limitation... the radar thing affects both pirates and traders after all.

seriously, and when they enter, its not like they can go out the way they came...

So, the smart thing to do is enter, back up about 750m, and wait for the entry signatures to appear. Given how long the travel distance in storms seems to be these days, the chase should end in a kill or a pay-out before the exit is reached.
