I actually don't think its a bad suggestion, if one was to expect that one day VO was to get big enough that something on the scale of the Guild desctruction thing over at Eve could happen. But like Lecter said, that's not exactly in the foreseeable future.

I think the most fundamental point made here is that any "account-banning" feature we create can be easily subverted by simply creating a new account (even a paid one). That requires a bit more effort on the part of the person doing the infiltration, but it's nothing we can ban (ie, it's technically infeasable to ban).

For the moment I'll say that Ayn's suggestion is understood, and should this crop up and become a problem, we'll look at it. However, down the road (by the time this might become a problem) we may have a factional system which is partially user-influenced, which could conceivably help. It wouldn't solve it, nothing really can solve it if the person is motivated enough, but combining user-driven reputation with higher guild requirements might mitigate the problem to some extent.

short term sollution would be to make invitees guest only, ergo without access to funds, items, etc etc.

Then once you trust thelm you can make them a fulltime member with certain privilidges, but not necessarilly all. Ergo access to percentag eof the guild bank if supplied x money towards guild bank, etc etc.

Ah Ha! Something to which we have a little experience on... Everyone remember Lahmi? If not, then search the RP board, it's a great story. And looking back at it now, I wouldn't give up that experience for anything.

Anyway, my thoughts are that whatever type of banning could be put in place, there will always be a way around it. The best approach to securing your guild, is a collaborative effort from your core members, to evaluate and... basically study your recruits. Your guild superiors will simply have to answer "Is this person right for the guild?" Be creative and come up with a process to follow and involve all officers and councilors. A collaborative effort is the key.

I know that the Vipers have gained a rep of having a long recruitment period. So I believe anything that the devs implement as to resources for recruiting would certainly be a plus and reduce the recruitment time. But just because we're a guild doesn't mean we should be able to know all the alts or ban an account.

I think an easy and better way is to have an official "Recruit" status in guilds. But that's been suggested before...

I definately like the sound of a factional system being partially user-influenced. I'm trying to imagine how it will affect recruitment, and strange ideas keep popping my mind. So, I'll have to wait and see what happens :)
