Guilds...

Jan 23, 2007 Yuutuu1 link
There are 48 Guilds in the VO Universe. Out of these 48, 10 are moderately active with another half dozen to dozen a few members. The truth is, there are a lot of inactive guilds in this game that need to finally be deleted once and for all. Some of these inactive guilds have been here since early beta.

Some of these guilds do not have enough people to actually fill a council, BotH with 1 member particularly. http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/9/15792

I realize that a lot is going on with the devs and how much work is being put into the game and such but its sad to see that there hasn't been time to clean out dead guilds since Beta. 60-80% of the guilds in VO are inactive and new players who are looking for guilds to join might be mislead by this information.

I know this has probably been stated time and time again and I do not need a link of past posts that go nowhere. All i am asking is that if the inactive guilds could be cleared, it doesn't have to be often, but maybe once every year or two so that there is no confusion.

/me bows to almighty dev gods and prays that the deadwood is finally cleared.

I agree. The only problem is new guilds pop up every month or so and the mortality rate for them is (guesstimating) 75 to 80%.

LOL OK, softy2, feel free to weigh in here. I won't re-hash my arguments here again.

yea moldy i understand that but the problem is extremely old guilds who have been here for a while and have remained inactive for years.

Oh, this is a problem now? How exactly is this a problem? Are the inactive guilds leeching away all your life-force? is Guild Software in dire need of the several KB of disk space these few guilds take up to store your inactive ships that have laid abandoned in some long-forgotten station for years?

What's the big battle to delete them for? They're NOT hurting anything. The devs have more important things to do than delete guilds that aren't hurting anything, and I'm sure any players returning to VO to find their guilds gone won't be too happy either. The Cost of deleting inactive guilds vastly outweighs the virtually nonexistant benefit.

Leave them.

Take out the inactive guilds. There is no need to inflate the numbers or any other reason to get new players nuts finding out about existing and active guilds.

I already explained how this is a problem. Its confuses new members who are trying to look for guilds to join. If people return to find their guilds gone then they can just restart them if they are so hellbent on being in that guild.

Newbies don't look for guilds on the guildinfo page, fool, they find them in-game.
Jan 23, 2007 Yuutuu1 link
so your saying there has never been a new player that looked at the guilds page for info. *shakes head* please dont call me names either cunjo, im only stating my point of view which is my right.

Won't SOMEBODY think of the CHILDREN!?!?

This has come up before, and I echo some of the sentiments already offered (though I agree, there's no need to be rude). As usual, these things are never as simple as they might seem.

Some of these guilds belong to the alts of active players and are dormant as their owners await a better guild interface, more players, the return of a valued member who has gone abroad, and so on. Some just don't want some young whipper-snapper appropriating their old guild name. The time-consuming part would be in attempting to contact each dormant guild to see what their interntions are.

Still, perhaps Inc will see this as low-hanging fruit and deal with it. There's about 50 other things I'd rather see done first though.

me too!

i couldnt name all 50, but im sure if someone else came up with a list of 100 things, i could narrow down 50 i want

I disagree. I think more rudeness is always needed.

for what it's worth, i had asked, once, for the "nut house bound" ([nuts]) guild to be dismantled but it hasn't happened.

the joke (and rp use) is done for and i have archived a screenie (scroll down some) of it for the threads. so the original guild doesn't need to exist anymore.

On second look I realized that this should be in Suggestions.

How about a new column in the guild database that tracks when a guild member was last seen?
Any guild where no-one had logged in for 30 days is not removed, it is simply not shown in the guild list.

That should rank up to about spot number 350 on the priority list?
Jan 24, 2007 Cunjo link
Or better yet, guild activity level is assigned a value, and the guilds on the poage can be sorted by activity as well as by name, acronym, etc.

Guilds that don't meet a predetermined level of activity are bumped to a 'dormant' section at the bottom of the list.

Looks like everyone's coming down on MY side of the argument, softy2! Ha!

Although, in a more recent thread regarding guild structure, we talked about setting a flag to make the guild public knowledge (visible) or not. I think that would be fun, meeting someone with a previously unknown guild tag (like [KILZ] or something) and then asking them about it.

When we have hundreds of guilds, making sure the inactive ones are not listed will be a priority. However, right now it's not super-duper important.

Although, I *would* like to see the default listing of guilds be listed by activity (hours logged per guildmember per day), so the most active guilds would be listed at the top, and the forgettable guilds would be waaaaay at the bottom. That would kinda solve the problem, I guess.
