Thread necromancy

Mar 15, 2007 Whistler link
Tonight I banished a few threads back to their resting places.

I'm all for unearthing old threads if you have something to add to them, or at least a pressing reason for reviving them.

The threads are unharmed and are resting peacefully as before.

If you open a new thread on something that has been suggested before and totally forgotten, you're called a moron because you didn't search and post there.

If you revive an old thread on something that has been suggested before and totally forgotten to request an update, add something, or just bring it back to attention, you're called a moron and thread necromancer.

Damned if you do, damned if you do not.

Way to go. We definitely need more lawyers.

If we had access to the CHUD forum again, maybe we'd be better able to refrain from thread necromancy in this forum...

Thread necromancy is generally considered bad etiquette on forums, Whistler is being resonable. And I've been guilty of it too. You just gotta use your best judgement.

"Hey! look at this old ancient thread. Cool!" usually isn't a good enough reason.

I say we let this thread sit untouched, then revive it as necessary. Hint hint.

(some rudeness deleted)

Syylk, my request had nothing at all to do with what you are speaking of. Somebody went through several 3-month-dead thread and posted replies of the "me too" and "yeah" variety. I removed those and sent the threads back into history. This was to avoid the inevitable wave of abuse the poster would have received.

This was informational only, folks. Maybe I should have locked it from the beginning.
