The Official Roll-Specific Ship Design & Suggestion Thread

12»
Mar 19, 2007 Cunjo link
Submit here suggestions and designs for role-specific ships. Be specific, and post as many details as possible for each ship, and diagrams or schematics.

The goal of this thread is to brainstorm possibilities afforded by the game's combat model and give the devs ideas for new ships to add.

There is no guarantee expressed or implied that any of the ships featured here will appear as suggested in the game, but I suppose the possibility is there if they're well thought out enough.

Just so that we get it out of the way:

Rollback: Newbie ship/alternative to teh EC-89
Cruising speed: 55m/s
Turbo speed: 155m/s
Turbo drain: 40/s
Thrust: 170N
Spin Torque: 6Nm
Mass: 5000kg
Length: 13m
Weapons: 1 Small port
Cargo: 12cu
Special notes: All flight controls work normally, except that the ship is always rolling in one direction or another of the /roll axes.

Crappy Drawing, doesn't give my design justice... will post an actual sketch later.

Details are as follows:

Variant = Stealth Armor
Level 9/9/12/-/-
Armor 9500
Cargo 3 cu.
Weapons 1 large port
Mass 8000kg
Length 7 m
Thrust 350 N
Max Speed 60 m/s
Spin Torque 9.0 Nm
Turbo Speed 220 m/s
Turbo Energy 55/sec

Keep in mind, this is supposed to be a small, tough, fast ship.

Aramath also came up with the single large port idea.

Also, this could be seperated into two different ships if this one turns out to be too bitchin.

On the subject of the stealth ship:

I think that if a ship has radar stealth capabilities, that should be the only real advantage it has. We don't want people flying a stealth ship because it's got a single L-port, high armor/maneuverability or is just generally uber. We want them to fly it because they really need the stealth, and that's it.

Perhaps if you offered two variations: one with a single L-port and good maneuverability but no stealth, and another with only a single s-port, smaller engines, virtually no armor and complete radar invisibility (also invisible to bots at more than 1000m).

PS. can we get a troll clean-up in here?

Yeah, the trolls are having a field day. And Jim's ship looks decent, the design ideas.

Okay, new side-angle sketch I just made up.

I guess we could say that this will be the stealth version.
If I had to change the edgy-ness, I don't think I would like it.

The rare Piano Roll!
Goes fast, hits hard, but costs a lot!

I'm just going to randomly place "As Seen On TV" icons on all of my designs from now on. I don't know why, but it's always humorous.

In fact, if we had Ship Decals, that would be my decal right now.

Nice Cunjo, I like both of them.

That Star looks like it will be pretty ownable though, but then again if you load it up with missiles it'll be a beast.

"Serco Phoenix" (Stealth Variant)

Overview in Blue just cuz you wouldn't be able to see the armor plates if it was black.

This is the side view.

And this is the back end.

Can we get some troll clean-up in here? this is meant to be a serious thread.
Mar 21, 2007 Sun Tzu link
Do you mean a roll clean-up?

Anyway it's good to know that this thread is serious.
Mar 21, 2007 toshiro link
Cunjo, get a hold of Freehand or Illustrator, it'll greatly help you. That is not to mean that your drawings suck, but drawings by hand can only convey so much, and show so much detail in one drawing.

Using a vector-oriented drawing program will take you much longer, but it'll be worth the while.

"Using a vector-oriented drawing program will take you much longer..."

Yea, why do you think I draw freehand to begin with? and crappy, sketchy freehand in ink at that?

If I was more concerned about quality of the drawing than the use of my time, I'd use real drawing tools, or a digital medium. At the moment, between work and college, I'm putting in 100 hours a week, so that just isn't a good use of my time.
