upgrade weapons

currently, the main pvp guns used are neuts and gauss, now i wish that other guns could compete with these guns for more variety. so i suggest that there be new versions of all the rarely used guns.

phase blaster MK III: upgrade velocity to around 215, slightly lower the targetting and raise the damage by around 50

flechette cannon MKIII: decrease spray size, increase damage by around 20, make some of the little peices of shrapnel that the gun produces with the bolt do damage(around 50)

ion blaster MKIIII:increase velocity to185, increase targeting a good amount,slightly increase the size of the bolts.

i think that these improvements would at least take these weapons a step closer to actual pvp use

I like these ideas, but I think the Flechette MkIII idea won't work with the "shrapnel" pieces doing damage due to lag issues--similar to the reasons why the gatling cannon/turret don't use ammunition.

If it will work fine without causing lag, I'd love it.

As for the phase blasters, why not just beef the TPG and Orion versions instead of adding a new one entirely?

Definitely a stamp of approval on this one.

well only a few shrapnel peices would do damage, the reason for the new phase blaster is that there are only 2 regular versions of it really.

dunno what you guys are talking about. Ive been flying a rev c with dual bus guns and a free bat just for kicks most of the past week. All things considered I don't think I've been doing too bad.

The other weapons work, they just take more practice to get used to leading your target so much.

yes but they just cant compete with the neuts. thats what the suggestion is about, not whether you can pvp with them but rather to make them able to compete with neuts and gauss.

it gives pvp more variety and gives more options to people who want their guns bolts fire faster and doesnt care if the damage is lowered, and some people might need something that has comparable targetting to a gauss with less weight but is easier to dodge to make up for the rate of fire.

it gives people more options than just, neuts and gauss as pvp guns

I did TPG/Orion/MkII phase blasters for a while in PVP... just ask Leber.

Well, the balance is pretty nice as is. A Valkerye with 3 Phase MkII's moves almost 50% faster than one with Neut MkII's. (3210kg vs. 4700kg). Obviously light guns are most useful for a light fighter, than say a hornet or hog. That being said, if the attack of a gun is increased, then the weight also needs to, accordingly, which essentially is already where VO is at, imo. I think when a new economy rolls around, the advantage of using a cheap blaster like Phase or Ion, coupled with thier low weight will make them more useful as sidearms. I think the Positron Blaster could use a little work, though.

I always saw plasma cannon as gauss MK -1 and phase blaster as neut mk -1 and err.. ion blaster as neut mk -10.. I guess. Basically just cheaper and obsolete versions of the other guns.

I like the idea to buff phases and ions. Oh, and as Nerde is on my side, we can buff popcorn too :-D

well these are not replacing older versions of the weapon, theyre only new MK versions

Isn't it Flechette<->Gatling :: Gauss <-> Devestator? Maybe a large Mega Ion Blaster, or something.

I like these ideas, but in the end, we really end up with upgraded gauss and n3s, which mean we basically get to pick our color. The ideas I like more would be stranger, interesting weapons that do cool things. We had a long discussion on 100 a few weeks ago about some crazier, quirkier weapons systems.

I'd like to see some wilder, more strange use weapons become available, in the vien of the conc missiles. Here are some suggestions:

Limpet Charges: A weapon that can be fired and attached to an asteroid or ship. Once attached, the ship would be given some recourse to shake the mine (hard G, scrape it or crush it on another ship or roid, etc). The mine itself would be set off by key or timer (or maybe offer both), so for example, you could attach them to roids throughout a sector and set off a mine feild after you've lured bots in, or hit a ship with one during BP and wait until that ship is in a furball near it's friends, then set it off.

Shrapnal mines, shrapnal rockets: When they detinate, they send shrapnal in all directions. They could also send out a flower of energy spray (like an N2 rocket) that has the same kind of range as regular N2s, but obviously, can only fire one set. It'd be neat to see secondary explosive charges set off when the shrapnal hit it's targets too. You could offset all of these for balance with weight, cost, and port spacing. Might be a good cap ship anti fighter weapon too (like BSG shrapnal shield).

I think Impavid should read the OP one more time. Nonetheless,

Those don't strike me as upgraded gauss and n3's, but I am still kind of new.

They aren't sustantially different though, or substantially better or worse. I don't think the problem is variants of current weapons, I think the problem is variety of KINDS of weapons. If these variants are introduced, all we'll really have is a couple more energy weapons that don't make much difference either way.

What we need are paradigm shifting, combat redefining weapons that make things more interesting. I spent most of the night fighting two AGT + Flare revanants in big furballs. It gets boring, even when they deserve it. Imagine the furball if I could blast through and lock limpets to their hulls while my buddies are fighting them. My buddies have them distracted, I limpet them, then we all pull away and set of the limpet. BOOOM.

New weapons won't open up new strategies, because they'll be just another in a long line of energy weapons. New KINDS of weapons, however, open up hundreds of new ideas and possibilities.

the new weapons im suggesting give weapons better for players with different tastes or skill,

the phase mkIII is faster and stronger with less targetting for those with good aim or need a faster weapon.

the new ion is meant for those with not the best aim, or those who want a lighter duty gauss type weapon

basically they fill in gaps of abilities in between certain weapons
