To give death meaning

May 13, 2007 zardos6ix link
It does not sit comfortable within the backstory at all, but what about adding organic ships that u could grow and develop overtime.

Depending on the roles that you use your ship in it could grow in accordance eg. you start out botting so your ship grows to add more agility and weapons or you prefer to trade so it would then increase its cargo hold.

Either way when you die you dont lose any license or levels but you would have lost a ship that has taken time to develop. Im not saying to replace all the ships with organic ones, but to have as another option to purchase as overtime they could be developed into powerful ships. So if you got shot down in one of these it would give a real loss.

I don't want death to have too much meaning. It would pretty much ruin PvP in my opinion.

People fear change. Bump the price of ships and equipment way up and add a sparring mode for friendly pvp or practice that would keep track of the damage to each ship if the fight had been real.

I fear change because I love it the way it is right now. I know the devs are eventually going to ramp up ship prices, but it wouldn't affect the game as much as zardos is suggesting.

FatStrat, that would hurt the users already present just a little tiny bit and discourage new users even more.

Ideally ship prices won't need to be raised if they just fix the economy and make it more difficult to earn credits.

Loss of rare items seems like a strong enough penalty. How long does it take you to get your ship all pimped out with the latest hive and law enforcement upgrades?

Interesting idea nonetheless.

NO!

The more meaning death has, the easier it to grief and have your game totally ruined. It's bad enough loosing an XC full of gear, but having other penalties, good lord no.

Players should always, and I mean always, be able outfit a decent ship and have a fight. If it takes 10-15 min of mining, or trading, or whatever, to re-establish a character from 0 to having enough cash for one ship fine, but the game is supposed to be fun and not work. More death pain invariably would lead to more work.

Not fun.

Prices on higher end ships should be affected much more strongly than lower variant models. This would keep noobs from getting discouraged and would make the game more interesting for the vets.
