a couple suggestions (that would have kept me paying)

1. Do something about the people like "Roda Slane" who seem to delight in wrecking the gaming experience for anyone they can. All it takes is someone new to vo to ask how something works on 100 for him to start insulting, and I'm sick of it.

People, myself included, were fed up enough to post a thread asking that he be banned or disciplined, nothing has happened, so that is influencing my decision to leave.

2. I feel Guild misrepresents the software on your homepage. It's buggy as hell, it's alpha quality, not beta even. Considering how long this game has been running these constant screwups are ridiculous for a game you expect us to pay for every month.

You should either post in big bold letters that numerous bugs WILL interfere with gameplay if you buy this game. This will happen often, daily even. There is no recourse, if you don't like it, leave.

If it can't be fixed while running on the live server it should be shut down until it is reasonably stable for a _pay to play_ game.

3. This is really the dealbreaker for me. No content. You have a gorgeous ingame environment, decent physics (except for the boost wearing off silliness), a good backstory. You have a core membership of people that keep coming back, just for pvp. pvp isn't everything, and it's not enough for me.

The missions in this game are ridiculously easy, there is really no way to fail most of them. Money is overabundant. Worst of all, they're boring!!! How many times can you go from station A to station B, get X number of crates, and return. Or fly up to asteroids to scan/mine them. Or follow a non interactive fleet of ai, which usually breaks anyway, either refusing to warp, refusing to dock at the destination, or whatever (see #2).

Suggestion to fix this lack of content? Work out the existing bugs first, you more than have your hands full as it is.

This post if going to sound way more pissy than I intended when writing it. My problem is I like the game, or at least I like what the game could be, a whole lot. It isn't worth my money or frustration in it's current state though. My characters are deleted now, and I will not renew.

Summary:

1. Give in to the whiners and ban people who don't play like carebears.
2. Either magically fix all the bugs in the game, or shut down the server and forget about, you know, eating any time next month.
3. Magically create large amounts of high-quality content. No extra money, though. Just do it!

(Yes, this might be a little patronizing. But, honestly, we get enough of these pie-in-the-sky complaining threads.)

My responses:

1) /ignore and /vote mute were put in for a reason, for those verbally abusive. The Devs have stated (to the best of my recollection **DISCLAIMER**) that this is a non consentual PvP game, so unwanted attacks on one's ships is the name of the game. Anything else you feel is abusive should be reported to a guide (who are overworked, underpaid (ie nonpaid) and need reinforcements imho). Also an email to the Devs, particularly Incarnate.

2) The core game is stable and bug free, if static. The new dynamic system being transitioned over (formerly called Deliverator but now being replaced by a second system, Kourier) is very buggy and has been improving over the last two years. Agreeing wholeheartedly, Deliverator/Kourier is in a beta stage. But concede that the game as a whole, while boringly static and unchanging, is stable (ie those boring going to point a and returning with cargo x missions you stated).

3) Biggest gripe I share with ya. PvE and solo missions get quite boring quickly, within a month or so they lose their novelty for most. Which leaves the lasting appeal with PvP. Other than the players, there is scantily clad content.

Overall, I agree with you on most of your points and subpoints. I joined two years ago, in a week or two, but stopped paying at least two months ago. And stopped having any real urge to play since last year. When it comes down to it, the Devs do what they have to and feel is best, and consumers do likewise, staying and paying or leaving for other pastures.

Better summary for you roguelazer...

1. Enforce the Rules of Conduct when an individual shows repeated disrespect for the game and its paying members.
2. If the game isn't stable enough to login and play for half an hour (I couldn't even jump into various sectors this morning), yes, by all means shut down new registrations, and possibly the server if it will aid in getting it stabilized. My issue is with Guild taking people's money on the promise of a playable game that often isn't.
3. I certainly didn't say magically create new content. I just said it is sorely lacking, and when taken together with the technical issues and (admittedly few, but very noisy) nasty people in the game, it isn't worth my money.

Anyway, defend what you want, flame me if you want, I really don't give two shits now. I've uninstalled it.

hrm. i have refrained from commenting on my departure because there are enough whiners out there, like this thread.

though, i agree with this post's main criticism baring the following exception; you're a ninny.

dont feel offended. but, it's true. and the reason for that is that while your complaints are largely founded, you're (perhaps unintentionally) ignoring the fact that the current mission and ai system is undergoing major changes whose purpose are

- better game stability
- better / more complex npc ai
- more comprehensive / flexible mission system

the economy system is also undergoing major overhaul.

these two factors, together, are largely responsible for your gripes. and mine (plus a couple more things for me, really).

so, if you can't stand the game as it is right now, by all means, refrain from using it (as i) and (if you want) keep an eye out for the current development (as i do) until the game reaches a point where you're pleased again.

oh, and i want guild banking.

Whoever this guy is reminds me of a certain percent of the playerbase I notice when on my pirate alt. I give them a reasonable hail for them to stop and listen to my terms or be blown apart, they keep going, I blow them up, then they spam my hails with trash talk/why did you do that?! In other words... this is just another nublit whining about his own nubbiness... Guild is run by about half a dozen people and they're making this game without big corporate sponsorships or a million workers like Blizzard or something. The reason why they're not advertising the game yet is because there are bugs and if there is a big, report it to the Bug section and (unlike other games) you will get dev response and the bug will probably be fixed in the next version... Also try assassination... It took me about three tries to beat that... try leviathan hunting with a party and you'll find that it's not a walk in the park. Also one of the reasons I got the game was because you had the freedom to do whatever you want in a vast universe. To admit, there isn't the amount of pve content in this game as there is in WoW simply because the playerbase isn't big enough yet to expand the Universe and add extra things but for it's size, there is plenty of content and you just need to find it [yourself, not have a bot tell you everything that you can do.]

SO STFU YOU COMMY PIECE OF CRAP!

(my rant is better than your rant because it suggests something productive, ignoring nubs like you...)

shanktank, quite frankly, you're out of bounds.

everyone's entitled to their opinion and while that represents your opinion, you dont have to be so harsh on public channels. a simple and joyful ninny would have sufficed and serve the purpose.

r8gctrxv (gosh how must i pronounce that?), while there are younger (or les hospitable) audience in vo, you would find that the majority is a good-hearted bunch and i think the game is worth the wait too. (i'm actually surprised the offending remark didn't get edited yet)

the community is really what makes me stick around. until further development.

The game is playable, and at 9.99 a month to be able to kill a few pirate tards (or chat with them in charming banter as you constantly search for them, only to be flared to death :D) is fine by me.
I used to play WoW, and I came here in order to:
a) Get my soul back. WoW tried to steal it.
b) Have a video game that will not try to steal my soul, but is on-line because I like the interaction.
c) Get away from the annoying people that always asked me to run them through Deadmines/give them money/or who took the game way too seriously.

Yes, this game does have its problems. But doesn't every online game? I remember there being constant problems with WoW... like a glitch in a PvP match that would allow the enemy team to win in 1/4 the time my team could... or a glitch that could be used to hide indefinately in a PvP match... or losing gear... or someone hacking your account and selling your crap... or the server's crashing... or quests that couldn't be completed... and then wait for 6 hours for a GM to get to you, only to tell you that they have no idea what's going on/it was 'working as intended'/or putting you on hold for another few hours only to tell you that they can't fix it. Can people camp in this game? Only if they're good/you put yourself in a bad situation. If you homed in Latos and you die in Odia, well, you fly the other way when you respawn and no problems. WoW is a multi-million dollar thing and still has problems.

As far as 'abusive' people go on this game... you named pretty much the only one who does anything like that. Go into a major city in WoW and ask where to turn in a lowbie quest. You'll be called a n00b, retard, people'll give you the wrong directions, flame wars, etc.

As far as new content... check out the PCC. Check out all the plans we have, but with *maybe* *at most* teens of people working on things, you can't expect them to come out daily, or even weekly.

This is my attempt at a concise argument against the original poster's viewpoints and ignorance. It will look crappy, but my point floats around in it, and anyone patient enough (unlike our friend here) will be able to pick out my true intention and meaning. I'm only in high school, and lack the particular kind of patience with myself to rearrange what I want to say, and find the correct words, and eliminate repetition. That repetition does, however, make clear what I want to stress, and feel strongly about while being unable to find the right set of words to express it properly. [Ass coverage complete]
I play this game because it has potential. I know full well that there are four people working on this game, all by themselves, against torrents of bugs, and larger multi-million dollar MMOs. For that, the four devs are heroes. I know this game will be great one day, and am willing to wait however long it takes. If our little flame of irritation had ever tried to do coding, and had even thought about what our devs miraculously pull off, they would take my same view. I myself have tried my hand at scripting, and know, at least in part, what the devs have to do.
All I'm saying is that I'm with our devs, and that they deserve your respect and compassion for even attempting this, and staying with it. Anyone who is arrogant enough to fly off at the devs, for any reason has not thought of what's going on below the surface such as financing and coding something like this. And I will continue to ramble in an angered manner like this until you see the true path, and embrace the light!

The fourm trolls will be released upon you, and their hunger will be insatiable!

Actually, direct insults (and, due to the absence of a filter, I think profanity as well) are not allowed on the boards.

Other than that, I agree with The Ori. I'll keep paying until I can't afford it or until VO crashes and burns, both of which events I hope (with a certain optimism) to never have to witness.
Jul 05, 2007 Sun Tzu link
If you play VO for the potential, then your leaving is a matter of time. It did not evolve to a significant extent since it was released.

If you pay for a game because you have compassion for the devs, then perhaps you should put your 10 bucks into other causes that do need it more.

VO is not a true MMORPG. It is multi-player space FPS with persistent data. If you take it as it is, it is a rather well done and not so expensive game.
Jul 05, 2007 toshiro link
Just because we cannot see the changes does not mean they are not there. Personally, I trust the devs that they are working pretty hard at getting the game to the point where they want it to be, and not lying to us about what they are doing.

As for putting the money elsewhere, where it 'makes more sense': That is an unfair suggestion, also one that is not yours to make. I'm sorry for putting it so bluntly.
Jul 05, 2007 Syylk link
"Compassion for the devs"? Huh???

What are they? A charitable organization feeding the hungry african kids?

I thought Guild Software was a professional business, providing a product, and earning customer money. Business - can this simple concept permeate into the thick skull of someone? Business has no compassion, either given or expected. It has only success - or failure.

Maybe I'm wrong, and one day I will see pictures of John and Andy in nun uniforms tending the homeless and serving them hot meals.

Only then, I will have compassion for them. Mainly for the uniforms! :)

However, while we keep a shop-customer relationship, I just give them my money expecting in return a fair product (and whether VO is a fair product, an excellent bargain, or a shameful ripoff can be really debated to no end, as the original poster has shown).
