Must they rush to add a date right now to please you, or can they wait until they actually make a change to add the date?
Honestly, do you REALLY think they'd change something in the EULA that would be of any importance to you without saying something in advance? They've been quite honest to date. And what impact could such a change actually have on your life, should they secretly conspire against you?

A bad habit is a bad habit. I can leave my car unlocked in my neighborhood because I can trust my neighbors, but it is still a bad habit, because it would not be wise to leave my car unlocked everywhere I go. My neighbors don't ask me to develop bad habits in order to live in my neighborhood.
GSW is asking it's customers to develop a bad habit, because "you can trust us".
Do they have to change the EULA right this minute? No. This issue was presented last week. They can change it. They can say when they intend to change it. They can say that they have no intention of changing it. They could have accomplished one or more of these action last week. But not changing it and failing to comment on it is in and of itself both and action and a statement.

You have been horribly spoiled by their incredible responsiveness. A week during the holiday / vacation season is not long at all.
What? I read this thread, I thought it was about whether the EULA should pop up every time. I did not see any great inquest into whether or not we are planning to change the EULA anytime soon.
No, we aren't. And I've already responded in past, identical threads about my legal concerns of allowing people into the game without confirming the EULA, which usually means I can skip new threads as other players are usually informative. Also, Roda, I've also been kind of ****ing busy lately with a large marketing promo and a rapid expansion of our server capacity, in case you hadn't noticed.
I'm not "carefully avoiding any commitment to point out changes", Roda, and your implications are offensive. I haven't changed the EULA in years, and while I have no particular problem with dating it, I've previously responded to the general "no-eula-confirm" concept, say here, as well as watching it coming up but not commenting here, without anyone accusing me of being some kind of malicious manipulator of legal documents.

Thank you for the informative and heart felt response.

...right now I have to fear accepting any unnoticed changes therein...
I am very glad to see you doing well in marketing and server expansion, and a preoccupation with urgencies is understandable.
I most certainly did not intend to imply that anyone at GSW would act in a malicious manner. I did intend to indicate that through oversight GSW had created a socially irresponsible precedent. I do hope you chose to not seek offense, as I am not known for the greatest of tact.
Your statement "I have no particular problem with dating it" almost sounds like a commitment.
I did not check for previous threads. Thank you for pointing out that this issue has been mentioned previously...

...the EULA doesn't have a "last modified on" entry...
I hope to see a fix or hear a more firm commitment on this issue, as companies like yours can be important contributors to higher standards in an ever growing market place.
P.S. Hope you (and all) have a happy holiday.

D'oh! I was LOOKING for that link!
fail.
Roda, you continue to show a lack of commitment to tact. You should have been well aware that the devs have been hard at work on priority items. To be so demanding about something that is very clearly your agenda of the moment is rude and annoying. Your snippy post above is more so.

Moving right along. I will look into adding a "Last modified" date at the top of the EULA, unless someone has a compelling legal-argument reason not to do so.
To the original poster, 8t88: sorry you ran afoul of some of our less tactful players. This sort of suggestion is something that we appreciate and is in the spirit and intent of this forum. Don't let them dissuade you.
(on a final note about forum searches, I tend to use google with "site:vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3" prepended to the search).

Anyway we can get a hotkey for accepting the EULA?
A hotkey.. sure, I can look at that too.
Yes, I think a hot-key will fix most peoples problems... as most people don't want to be bothered clicking the button.. I was also about to suggest a hot-key...

I would think that those who might have such arguments would charge by the hour for them. But please, you go right ahead and add a hot key for "accepting" the EULA, when those asking for it said it would be great because then they wouldn't even have to look at the button, much less the EULA itself.

Tab then Return on a Mac (less than a second). Jeesh.
Well, regarding the first post that you linked, Incarnate, CCP does not require the user to accept the EULA every time they log in, but instead on the first run of the client (after installation) and the first time the client is run after installing new expansions (once about every four to six months). You also have to put in a minimum of effort to get past it by scrolling to the bottom of the EULA before the 'Accept' button becomes clickable.
Daare's solution also works on Windows, and I can only assume it works on Linux as well.
There's also a Lua way around accepting the EULA every time, but it's a bit convoluted and even I don't really understand how it works (something about picking a character while the EULA is displayed, I think).
I'm going to agree with what I think is Lecter's implied point -- that is, "there are far more compelling legal arguments to keep the system we have as it is than there are to change it to how other people want it" -- and say that while a "last updated" thing would be nice, there should not be a 'hotkeyable' way around it.
For the tl;dr people:
"Last Updated" thingy: Yes, please.
Hotkey to get around the EULA: Bad idea.
Hitting Tab and then Enter: good enough for everyone
Updating the EULA itself: meh, just look at it before you release 2.0.
