Buff Guilds, Nerf Nations

Aug 07, 2010 Alloh link
Why?
-Player's Guild is much more important than his nation to decide if he is friend, foe or neutral.
-Guilds have no advantages, even cannot own stations.
-Vet players tend to join guilds.
-Stations are being conquered and held only by guilds.

Solutions proposed:
1) Pariah nation: A new nation where go those who become permanent KoS with his native nation. Since unaligned/gray is the hive, make them Pariah/white, or whatever name/color.

2) Guild code appears ahead name of his member.
GLD:PlayerName OR
[GLD]PlayerName

3) Make possible to Guilds also to own stations and, in future, capships, factories, shops...

----------
Ideas above are not new. I feel we should re-evaluate them again.

it's not make VO into guild wars, but make game rules reflect what already happens in game!

Seriously though,

-1 to the premise. To raise Guilds over Nations effectively nullifies the pvp threads because there is no point. Everyone can just fly valks. Also, most guilds that I am familiar with tend to either 1) attempt to fit into the Nation back story or 2) try to fill the criminal nitch.

Besides, progress is being made in this area already with border battles and conquerable stations which have not yet been made valuable. These foster group activities which btw, encourage guild activity.

What happens in game is due to the few players online at any given time interacting for their mutual entertainment. When VO has several hundred+ active players on at any given time, the dynamics will be completely different than what they are now.

read again, it's not replace Deneb war. Or any existing conflict.

But, for a serco newbie, venturing in UIT or gray space, who will be more dangerous, a Serco/CHRN or a Itani/TGFT pilot?

Those who betrayed his own nation,in war time, what happens?

-1 This would only lead to even more rampant carebearism.

"Those who betrayed his own nation,in war time, what happens?"

They get to engage in an enduring and endearing pout about not getting to switch to Unaligned / Grey status for nationality. :p

But to answer your question, I don't really think any changes need to be made to accommodate said newbie because 1) anyone who monitors 100 (and they do by default)should already know that grey space is dangerous- in fact iirc the tutorials even mention this, 2) if they are venturing into Grey before they can intelligently defend themselves then too bad. The real problem is protecting UIT newbies from players who can still easily bypass the protections put in place which only making all UIT space monitored will balance with Itani & Serco space 3) targetless does an excellent job of showing a players demeanor towards your nation 4) one death or hostile hail should be sufficient to advise a new intelligent player that vigilance is required.

Also, I don't see how your OP addresses or applies to this concern.

@DF
Simple, "baddies" will be 'black' nation. Someone like Peytros will no appear as a Serco, therefore making easier to newbies to know they should run. Or pray. Or pay... AND/OR their guild tag will be displayed in a better way than pressing 'k'

So said serco newbie will not complain that another serco killed him while flying alongside a itani he attacked...

Same applies to any nation newbies.

And, at another level, would allow to 'balance out' number of pirates with unrats relative to number of online players/rats.

@RR
Again, I can't see your point. How will that become rampant carebearism if rules are clear?
Like I said, permanent KoS leads to ban. Details can be discussed. It's not a "he killed me, ban him from game", its a "repeated offender banned from our nation, now is tagged as a pirate, instead of {S/I/U}"

====

Again, its not 'raise guild war above nation war'. Those 3 suggestions are to make the game rules reflect what actually happens in game.

-It is about enabling ONE/ITAN fights over ConqStation have support from engine
-It's about pirates visibly becoming pirates
-It's about guilds also being able to own storage, ships, shops, stations, resources, as they have a bank.

* Ok, the title should be "Buff Guilds and add new nation", since nothing proposed reduces nation's possibilities...

Maybe I'm just not getting what your trying to suggest.

1) if I'm blue and he's red, I'm going to shoot at him. Simple. What exactly are you suggesting that would improve on that? If I see a blue collaborating with a red, I'm going to shoot at him too. Though to be honest, I don't think your problem exists at a level that requires a fix. Personally, I think some of the plug ins being incorporated into the main game would do a far better job at helping newbies identify threats.

2) The rats and others have been clamoring for years to get changed over to Grey / unaligned as their nationality. For whatever reason, probably because it would require a shit ton of revising the game code the devs have chosen not to do this yet. So, may I ask what your newbies are going to do when they meet my evil alt, who when he was most active was universally POS? And I'm not the only one who understands faction management. This was why I made the suggestions I did a while back regarding Procurement missions.

3) This I whole fully agree with. We need more cooperative goals in VO. And surprisingly enough, the devs seem to be moving in that very direction atm.

1) I'm a blue newbie and see another blue pilot, and a red pilot. Who should I fear more?
From what game engine proposes, i should fear the red guy. From what really happens in VO, that depends in 2 factors, much more than nation: Guild and who is.

Certainly, for a newbie pilot, a [THC] or [CHRN] are real treats, even if the other pilot is from same nation. While an "enemy" holding a tag [TGFT], [VPR] or [EMS] will not be.

Probably a 3POS will be friendly, while a 3KoS certainly will not!

That is what I am trying to address with #1 and #2.

I'd like to ban all pirates, not from game, but from nations. Yes, the rats also have requested that, then Inc refused due he consider that it will have to wait Faction Redux...

While I ask, please implement 'Rat Nation' before Redux.

I'm a blue newbie and see another blue pilot and a red pilot, where am I? If I'm in Itani space, I should feel fairly safe with the blue pilot and if no strike force or shooties are going on with the red, I probably shouldn't fear him either.

If on the other hand I'm in Grey or UIT space, I should not trust anyone I don't know. Especially if they are smiling.

I personally like the surprise. Any time you exit your nations space- unless your UIT in which case your just screwed- you should not feel safe.

I think incorporating a plugin like targetless would accomplish what you are after as well as anything else.
