Self-Destructing Mine

Dec 12, 2010 space999999 link
There should be a self-destructing mine, sort of like suicide. It should do 20K damage through a 500 meter radius, and 5K damage from 500-1000 meters of the mine. As soon as this mine is laid it self destructs, hurting the user, too. Requirements should be somewhat easy, because this is a one-time use addon.

This is a clear consequence of death without consequences...
One can already achieve that using /explode

Except that /explode takes 10 seconds, and barely hurts anyone around the explosion.

[EDIT] This would bring the terrorism aspect into the game. You can't really do that with /explode. [/EDIT]

I need to try this some time. "Glory Device" :)

You could already do this with a biocom mine, though.

"This would bring the terrorism aspect into the game. You can't really do that with /explode."

Thats a fair point, and technically a good idea. Nationalists, rebels... etc... etc... have used terrorist tactics since people realized they were effective. I'm not certain however that this would work in VO for the following reasons.

1. getting past border turrets to use this in nation space.
2. requires RP
3. care bears

We have carebears in RL, too. I think this is a good idea, and no, you can't do it with a biocom mine because if you use a biocom mine it won't detonate until you're a certain distance away. Biocom mines are also insanely expensive.

Turrets suck. Let's remove them!

Biocom mines are also bitches to manufacture. This mine should be fairly easy to manufacture considering you can only use it one time. BUT, the point of this is to create a terrorism aspect, because right now, there's ramming, and flare spamming, but you don't necessarily die.

Or just let people buy and fly Aerna Seekers.
Dec 13, 2010 drazed link
Already available... Get a ship with in-line l-ports, like a rag/moth/centaur... put a mine in the front l-port, put swarms in the rear l-port... Activate both simultaneously, mine/swarms are triggered instantly for instant death/damage... terrorists win!!

EDIT: flying Aerna Seekers sounds fun... and probably deserves it's own thread, one I would definitely +1

Thats true, I've done that myself.

+1 for terrorism. Can't let those damned religious & ideological nuts have all the fun!

So, no change required. Just use Drazed solution, and RP.

Flying Aerna Seekers should be included with most of other bots as cheap 'boats' widely, as already proposed in other post...

We could just make firing an Aerna Seeker missile launcher detonate your ship and cause massive damage.
Dec 14, 2010 space999999 link
Actually, Aerna's would be perfect examples of terrorists.... they shoot the flares so close, that the explosion kill them.

+1 to Aerna Seeker idea.

Actually yeah... the more I think about this the more I like it. It opens up an interesting avenue for RP scenarios.

"Turrets suck. Let's remove them!"

Best idea.

I wholeheartedly support the ideas in this thread.
