Anvil Pod

Apr 12, 2011 Pizzasgood link
This is an unguided "rocket" style weapon - it adds the ship's velocity to its own when fired - though I think of it more as a pod since it doesn't really have much velocity of its own.

Not sure whether this should pack two anvils, or just one that is twice as strong. I went with two to help differentiate it from the BioCom.

Name: Anvil
Port: Large
Ammo: 2
Energy: 160
Grid: 6
Damage: 36000
Velocity: 5 m/s
Splash Radius: 80 m
Proximity: 10 m
Delay: 1 s
Mass: 20000 kg
Price: 40000
Reload: 18000 per rocket

It has a tiny prox, so you have to aim carefully, and the weight makes using it dangerous. The energy draw also makes it harder to drop two in quick succession at high speed. It should be difficult to use in a standard pvp situation, since you'd have to basically fly head-on and drop it at the last moment, which should catch you in the blast. If you drop it with enough time to veer off, it becomes hard to actually hit a small moving target.

In an fight against a cappie, which is what it's intended for, making contact would be easier. The weight makes it harder to use safely though, and since it's slow, it might give defenders time to position themselves to detonate the pod on themselves rather than the capship. And the cost helps to discourage using it in situations where you are frequently foiled without landing the shots on the capship.

Might be worth increasing grid to 7 or 8 to preclude using 3 of these monsters on the Heavy Miner MkII, but that ship is such a pain to get that I think they should be allowed to use 'em.

As for faction, I'd say either XX or Serco.

I like it. Blaze in at high speed, get as close as safely feasible, fire, pull up hard and hit the turbo. My vote is for Serco, it just seems like something they would have.

+1, but from Ineubis...

Corvus focus is "trade" - get & sell stuff.

Ineubis Defense Research have more focus on weapons than XX, who makes robotics, containers and radar extenders, or Corvus, whose focus is "trade" - get & sell stuff, and produces ships, holodisks and fake clothes

Didn't say anything about Corvus. Serco was the other faction that I mentioned. This seems like the kind of thing a Serco would think up, and we currently don't have any nation-specific weapons in the game, as far as I'm aware (Neut MkIII doesn't count).

As for XX, you are right that they aren't a specialized weapons manufacturer. But since they don't specialize in weapons, I would expect that when somebody asks them to make a weapon they would opt for something less sophisticated than a more dedicated faction like Ineubis might produce. If you specifically ordered a fancy guided weapon or autonomous assault bot or something, they'd do it, but if you just ask them, "Make me a powerful weapon for attacking capital ships," I think they would go for the easy way out and do something quick and simple like this. That is the impression I have of Xang Xi. Granted, it is more heavily influenced by Whytee's story than the by canon itself.

I agree with making it XX. They have few unique items anyway.

Why not just make it part of the default arsenal and add a new "bomb" class of weaponry? That would seem the most logical step.

We need some diversity, give this to a major nation and give the other nation something similar.
